It's a little bit messy in the way you navigate. If you're self hosting media I'd suggest trying Infuse instead, but if you're specifically looking for the TV service link ups, plex is okay. It's better on apple TV really.
In terms of keeping up with what you're watching and up next, as far as I know, the only app to do that well is the apple TV app, though you should note it doesn't include NetFlix.
Was thinking of setting up a plex server but haven't used it in a while so wasn't sure of accessibility, I have jellyfin servers up right now though.

The Jellyfin app is good too.
Again, infuse is great, it can do jelly fin, plex, but also direct play from things like google drive. It does all the indexing locally and syncs through iCloud. Though, note, it only does movies and shows, not music or, god forbid, audiobooks.
I'm still trying to find a good solution to audiobooks. Audio Book Shelf seems the most likely candidate but it's a pain to set up.
