Voiceover not reading buttons in Whatsapp

Just checking to see if anyone has noticed a weird bug with whatsapp. When trying to use the slide up to lock voice recording, voiceover used to read the buttons that appear like pause recording, send, cancel etc. Now when I lock a voice recording, the send button will be visible for a few seconds but will then disappear. Voiceover can only navigate around in the message thread but you are then locked in the recording mode and can't cancel, pause or send the recording. Voiceover seems to think those buttons are gone. This just appeared today so I am trying to figure out if this may be a bug in a new release of the software or not. Or did I somehow change a setting that caused this to happen? Thanks all!

Hi,
According to the Double Tap podcast, this is a known issue, and Meta are fixing this in the next update. Apparently you can use Screen Recognition to find the 'send' buttons etc.. I haven't seen this yet though. Dreading it when I do.

I deal with this bug by turning off VoiceOver and tapping the bottom right corner of the screen. This is a reliable and probably the fastest method.
When you do that, the button comes back and so does the edit field.
Another method is to clear the chat and enable screen recognition.
It’s a bit annoying, but you can manage 😁

Very helpful, Ines, thanks so much. I tried turning off voiceover and tapping the bottom right corner of the screen and that worked well. Glad to know it's not just me! Hopefully they'll have it fixed soon!
