Does the current voiceover on the latest macOS work good with libreoffice? I use it on windows and I have documents in ODT format that I edit and write.
Word is getting a little better it seems. If you don't want the subscription, you can find groupons or similar deals for Word 2024. I got it for aobut £15.
Writing works. I've tried it, and reported on it in the other thread, where half the replies amounted to, "no it's not accessible, I tried it two-and-a-half years ago and it sucked"!
I don't get it, it worked or not?
But yeah last and only time I tried it's as bad as adobe digital edition, interface around the main purpose of the app seems fine but the core features are not accessible or even usable.
I tested it very briefly. In Writer, you can write text, and you can move around with the arrows. VO-a doesn't work to read. That's aboutwhat I can tell you. I don't really use any office programs and if I do I'll start with Pages and such. But I briefly tried it because everybody in the last thread was like "no it totes doesn't work", but they'd also tried it at least a year ago.
I'm not saying it's accessible to the point where you'd want to use it, maybe, maybe not. I'm just saying, I tested it *very* briefly, and yes, you can put text into Writer. You can move through it with the arrows, I think it might make some sort of extra announcement which would probably get annoying after a while, which means you can also proof and edit it, in the most basic way. I have no idea if you get anything more advanced like formatting or tracking changes or comments or whatever, probably not.
But again, the very basics worked. You can install it. You can get into Writer, at least. You can enter and move through text in Writer with basic editing commands, which means you can also correct things. I doubt it's to the point of usability yet. But apparently, some changes have been made, because in the other thread people reported that it was completely inaccessible, i.e. nothing worked, Voiceover didn't read anything. If that was the case, it's not any more.
