Hello, In notifications you can either have banners, badges, or sounds selected. Of course I want sounds, but but should I have banners and badges selected? I'm not sure what the differences are between banners and badges. If someone would shed some light on this for me I'd really appreciate it! Thank you.

Banners and badges are quite different. Banners are displayed at the top of the screen when a notification is received. They will disappear automatically after a couple of seconds. Badges are displayed on app and folder icons on your Home screen to notify you of something new in an app. What the number represents will depend upon the app - it might be the number of missed phone calls, the number of unread emails, the number of Direct Messages on Twitter, and so on. To muddy waters a little more, you can actually choose between having a Banner or an Alert when a new notification is received. Unlike a Banner, an alert does not go away automatically - you will need to acknowledge that alert by double-tapping on a button before it will go away and you can do anything else on your device.
