help with the shortcuts app

Hi there. was hoping to get some clarification on how to use voiceover within the shortcuts app. So, I'm able to create some basic shortcuts using voiceover, but when trying to create more complex shortcuts I notice that the navigation of the app becomes a bit more confusing. For example, when trying to create a menu to choose which app I want to use for watching something, it does not focus on the individual menu element so that I can edit it. I've also tried some other shortcut work arounds like using the dictionary actions and the choose from list functions, but I seem to be running into the same voiceover difficulties. Does anyone have either some other work arounds, or alternative shortcut and automations creation apps to try that would maybe be more voiceover friendly?
