Discord Accessibility Issues on Windows

Hello,

I wanted to share an accessibility concern I am experiencing with Discord on Windows while using the screen reader JAWS (Job Access With Speech).

When I was in a voice chat recently, I was trying to tab through the interface to locate the option to share my screen. However, while tabbing through to find that option, the buttons were not labeled, which made it very difficult for me to identify and use the screen share feature independently. I ultimately had to ask someone to remote into my computer using Quick Assist to assist me in locating the screen share option in Discord.

I am wondering if there is a way to contact Discord directly regarding accessibility issues such as this? as I would like to ensure this feedback reaches the appropriate team.

One additional suggestion I plan to share with Discord is the option for a keyboard shortcut to allow screen sharing. Other platforms, such as Zoom, offer this functionality, and it could be very helpful for screen reader users.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I appreciate any guidance you may be able to provide.

Good morning,
Thanks for telling me about the scripts. I will check it out!

I've been using Discord for a good 9 months, most of this time with no scripts. Having discovered Doug Lee's discord scripts, I can honestly say that my pleasure and efficiency in using Discord has massively increased. Not sure if the scripts address the share screen button issue, but well worth checking out.

Hi, so the buttons are unlabelled however, for some reason, the label is underneath the unlabelled button

is this because of discord, or the discord scripts?

I'm noticing the unlabeled buttons as well. Voiceover is announcing them as images.

you can submit a support ticket on Discord support.

Open Settings with Control + Comma. Tab until you reach the list of settings you can adjust, then move down until you hear Keybinds. From there, tab to the drop-down menu and choose the action you want to assign a shortcut to—in this case, Screen Share.

Once you select the option, tab until you hear Record Keybind. To confirm I’m in the right place, I tab forward and backward until my screen reader repeats the selected option. That lets me know I’m focused correctly.

After you activate Record Keybind, you’ll have a few seconds to type the shortcut you want. If you don’t enter it in time, the field will close, but that’s fine—you can just try again. Once you type the shortcut, the dialog closes automatically and the keybind is saved. Then tab to the Close button to exit Settings.

At that point, the shortcut should work. I was able to set several shortcuts this way, and it’s been working great for me.

Good evening,
I set a keyboard shortcut for the share screen. When I did that using job access with speech, I typed the command and it didn’t read the screen. I did control shift S.

Yeah, that's the thing when setting the shortcuts... There's no confirmation when it is set and or saved.
