Hi everyone,
I’m happy to share that my new iPhone reading app, Vox Libri, has just been released on the App Store. It’s built specifically to offer a comfortable, distraction-free, and fully accessible reading experience—especially for blind and low-vision readers, braille users, and anyone who benefits from a highly customizable interface.
What Vox Libri does
• Read your way: on-screen reading, braille display support, or high-quality text-to-speech.
• A reading screen you can truly tailor: font, size, spacing, colors, and themes.
• Smart navigation through chapters, headings, pages, bookmarks, and document sections.
• Hands-free reading with headphone controls.
• Import and read common formats: TXT, PDF, DOCX, RTF, HTML, Markdown, and EPUB.
• On-device AI features (when supported by your device): translation, summarization, and simplification.
• Full English and Spanish support across the interface and reading experience.
If you’re interested, you can check it out here:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/vox-libri/id6745276008
If you try it, I’d really value feedback from this community—especially around VoiceOver/braille workflow, navigation, and anything that could be improved for real-world reading.
Thank you.

Many Thanks for this
Hope it works on Macos as well.
MacOS version is in progress
Hello Maldalain,
I am still working in a version for MacOS and Apple Watch.
I'm working on the sync module to share reading progress, books, and bookmarks. I expect it to be available in early February.

Reading in other languages
Hi, I'm Italian and I would like to try your software which promises very well. I read that it is optimized for English and Spanish but if I install it can I read correctly in Italian? Which TTS are used in the application?
Thank's in advance.
Best regards
Alessio
Voices in all languages in the device
Hello Alessio,
Currently the app uses the installed voices in your device.
I just made a test, I went to the settings in the app, I opened the voice section for settings, I chose the Italian language and I had the Eloquence voices for IT and Alice compaq in my device. I suppose if you have more voices for Italian in your device they will be there.
Regards
Voxlibri end unzip
"Hello,
I am enjoying the app.
I would like to suggest a feature: the ability to automatically open .zip files. I receive books in compressed formats and it would be great if they could be uploaded and opened directly within VoxLibri.
Do you have plans to include this functionality in your upcoming roadmap? "
Zip support
Hello Voxtor,
Honestly I think adding zip support is not complicated. I just added zip support in the roadmap for a future update of Vox libri. thanks for your feedback!
App Store Description in Spanish Only
Not everyone even has to be fluent in English, yet you compel us to be proficient enough in Spanish to go through the whole app description. While this app can be used in English and Spanish—meaning it lacks support for other languages—the App Store description cannot even be read properly in English. I could rely on my very basic knowledge and intuition to make sense of the description by relating the words to other similar languages like French, or machine translation to get an English translation, but why should I have to? Since this is a paid app, these details become more conspicuous and tend to drive users like me away from an app that otherwise sounds promising.
Re: App Store Description in Spanish Only
The App Store description is an English for me🤷
AppStore in English and Spanish
Hello,
The app supports English and Spanish, in fact, the main language is English. I'm going to check if there is any problem about that in the AppStore connect web page for the app. I don't understand what is the problem about the appStore page in Spanish for no Spanish speakers
Any audio formats supported?
Just curious if there are plans to support any audio formats in the future.
----Pete
About audio contents in Vox libri
At the moment, the app doesn’t support any audio or video content. I think there are other apps that already do that quite well, and I’d rather focus on text-based content.
That said, if later on I finish everything I want to add and users are still requesting it, I may consider adding support for playing audio content.
Thanks for your feedback.
Export to audio feature
Hi Jonathan. Firstly, a massive thank you for the creation of this app, it's fantastic.
I was wondering if you could add a feature where you can export text to mp3 or other such formats with the Text to speech settings of your choice. Speech central has that feature, but it doesn't work very well and is quite buggy.
It would also be great if you had a book, if the app automatically created different audio files for each chapter.
I understand if none of these features are possible, of course but thought I'd ask anyway.
Thanks again for the fantastic app, and keep up the great work!
About exporting to audio
Hello InfoRover
The feature to export a book to audio—including the sounds for headings, page breaks, and the rest of the notifications—is on my roadmap for this app. I need to sort out many things first, and when I’m able to work on it, the first step will be to study whether that kind of audio export is actually possible.
In any case, I’m noting that there are people interested in it. Thanks for your feedback.
AI Summaries and Simplifications are in Spanish!
Hi Jonathan!
Thanks for creating this app. So far, its been great for reading with Eloquence in a way that feels very natural and hassle-free.
I'm using the app in English. When I tested the AI summaries and simplifications features however, these were provided in Spanish. As I'm learning Spanish, this bug could actually be a feature, but I'd rather have the choice! :) It sounds like maybe the AI prompts for these features would benefit from a setting where the user could choose the language for the summary or simplification, defaulting to the system language.
I can see a day when this app will be firmly on my first page.
Feature Request: Bookshare Integration
Hi Jonathan!
For future consideration, could you please include Bookshare integration? I see that you already have this for Project Gutenberg, which is great.
BTW, the way that structural information, e.g. headings and list items, are indicated with short sounds while reading, is really helpful, especially when reading technical materials. Making more noise about this great feature should get you more customers!
Bookshare integration please!
I agree with Laurent Cadet de Fontenay. Bookshare integration would be fantastic. I hope it will be a consideration. You have a good start with this app, as a braille only reader, I'm very happy to find an app that focuses on text. I agree there are already good audio options out there.
Initial Thoughts
Hello. Thanks for letting us know about this app. I just bought it to check it out. Here are some initial thoughts.
I like the overall look and feel of the app as both a low vision and VoiceOver user. The app also seems quite responsive, and I like the customization on both a global and book level. I also liked that the user can even adjust the controls layout.
One button that could be a good option to include is a quick visuals button when in a book. Rather than needing to go into the menu, just allow one of the controls buttons to open the visual settings, in case a reader wants to adjust something visually quickly.
Adding a feature to support folders would also be very helpful. I would like to organize books and documents into specific folders.
I also think Bookshare support would be very helpful.
I don't know if this is possible, but one feature I'd love to see for a reading app is both an IOS and Windows version, and the ability to sync between them. I know this is common between Mac and IOS, but not Windows. There are many people who use an iPhone or iPad, but use Windows as their primary computer platform, for accessibility and/or other reasons. Having a lightweight reading app for Windows that could sync with your IOS app would be great.
I think that's all I have for now.
More voices? And choosing language.
I’ve downloaded the app and I like what I see. You talk about high-quality text to speech voices. Are you planning to add any more voices besides the ones that are installed on the device? It might be helpful to make it clear that it’s the device voices in your app description so that people know and are not disappointed also when choosing a language all the descriptions are in Spanish rather than English. Is there a way to change that?
Audio
Agreed that you should focus on getting text formats working robustly before thinking about audio. The Although there are a number of other apps for listening to audio material as you indicated, the only reason I suggested audio is that it would be nice to have all of my reading material organized into one app rather than skippingh around from app to app.
But certainly get text working well first!

Re: AI Summaries and Simplifications are in Spanish!
Hello Laurent,
sorry for the bug and, yes, it is a bug.
In the instructions I give the AI, I explicitly tell it to use the same language as the text, but it seems that sometimes it makes its own decisions.
I’m going to try refining the instructions so that it forces itself to follow the prompts properly.
In any case, I like your suggestion that the user should be able to choose the language. I’ll note your suggestion and look into it for a possible update.
Thanks for your feedback!
About Bookshare in Vox libri
Hello everybody,
Bookshare integration is on my roadmap. Please be patient.
On January 1, I sent Bookshare a request asking for access and instructions to integrate their service into Vox Libri. I assume we’ll need to wait until the holiday season is over to get a response.
Thanks for all the feedback.
Re: Initial Thoughts
Hello Jessie,
Thanks for your feedback.
The idea of the quick visuals button looks very interesting for that setting. In fact, I think to develop quick buttons for diferent setting settions.
The folders feature is available now. Please, check the filters menu in the library screen.
Unfortunately, all of Vox Libri’s code is written for Apple platforms. Creating a Windows or Linux version would mean rewriting the entire codebase from scratch.
Regards
Re: More voices? And choosing language.
Hello Diana,
Thanks for your feedback.
I’m working on adding cloud-based voices such as Google’s or ElevenLabs’. I’ve also contacted Acapela and CodeFactory to be able to include their voices.
Regarding the “high-quality voices” mentioned in the description, I mean that on all devices you can use and customize Compact, Enhanced, and Premium voices. I’ll add a clarification about this on the App Store.
As for the app’s language, honestly I’m not sure what might have happened, since the primary language is English, but it seems it was switched to Spanish. This will be fixed in version 1.1.
Re: Audio
Hello Peter,
I agree, text improvements are first. And, the audio feature is not out of the roadmap. We only have to be patient
A couple bugs, a couple suggestions
Hello, Jonathan! This is an awesome app. I can tell you’ve worked hard and put a lot of thought into it. I really like the way all the buttons on the reading screen are customizable! It lets me put things I use most, like play/pause, near where my thumb falls naturally, and those I don’t use much further away. Making them customizable, that’s next level right there.
I came across a couple of bugs I thought I’d mention, and came up with a couple of suggestions that might benefit everyone. I’ll let you and my fellow posters chew that one over.
Bugs:
Under Settings » Voice Settings, the list of languages is in Spanish. For example, my language, English US, is written Inglés, Estados Unidos.
The second bug is this. When adding a book from the library screen, the top choice is Archives. In the manual, it says this is called “files,” so I figured it might allow me to select things besides archives. I was right, but I also learned that it doesn’t like to open .zips. When I select one, it just says it’s “dimmed.” I know this is an app in the enhancing stage, so it’s no big deal, but I thought you’d like to know.
Now, the fun part for me, here are suggestions I’d like to offer. I put the stuff I’d think of as higher priority nearer the top.
1. Twenty-four-hour, three-day, whatever, free trial. You deserve payment for your hard work, that’s sure. In my personal experience though, I’ve put down good money on apps that claimed to be 100% accessible, only to find that it was 100% inaccessible. Fortunately, Apple took pity on me and got me a refund, but they didn’t have to. I was well past the two-hour window when I requested it because I tried to contact the developer to ask what I was missing.
The result is that I’m reluctant to get an app that won’t let me look around for a day or two to see if it really is accessible and if I like it. I wouldn’t have purchased your app if I had found it in the app store with no context. I found it here though, and there were several people saying how much they like it, so I gave it a shot.
I hope you understand that I never thought any one app or developer was acting maliciously, but I learned that there are some out there who only care about the buck.
For what it’s worth, I hate these subscription-only apps; you never really have the app forever. Thank you for providing a simple, solid price to get the app.
The second suggestion is that it would be nice if I could turn up the volume on the notification sounds. I have some hearing issues, so maybe it’s just me, but I find I can’t hear them.
My last suggestion for tonight is about the adjustable controls on the reading screen. Some readers also have a slider to change the voice. Sometimes when I’m reading a book, I find the voice I picked just isn’t right. For example, using Alex to read a book about a hard-boiled female detective just seems not nice. Zoe or Samantha might handle the reading better. If you decide to do this, may I suggest that sliding through voices should only choose the highest quality of the voice that’s installed? For example, I have Samantha Premium installed, but the compact version can’t be removed. Nevertheless, I don’t want to hear that one when there’s a better one on the system.
Thank you for reading this long post. I suck at keeping it brief. You can’t say I’m in love with the sound of my own voice though; I never made a sound while writing this. 😄 Thank you for thinking of us blind and V.I. folks. For many devs, accessibility is an afterthought, or often, a non-thought.
Re: A couple bugs, a couple suggestions
Hello Jason,
First of all, thank you for the feedback. I’ve fixed those issues for version 1.1, and ZIP file support has been added to the roadmap for a future release.
Adding a volume control for the sounds is also on the roadmap.
Regarding the accessibility of the app, I am blind as well, but I want the app to be accessible for everyone: blind users, people with low vision, people with visual neurodivergence, or anyone with other vision-related needs. That’s why the app includes so many customization options.
As for a trial version, I don’t like subscriptions either. Offering a trial is complicated for me. I live in Europe, and the paperwork and bureaucracy involved would take time away from coding new features. Honestly, I’d rather keep building apps that help everyone than focus on my day job or deal with bureaucratic tasks—but that’s life.
In any case, I appreciate your opinion. I can assure you that any app I create includes accessibility features.
Folders and Windows
Thanks for the reply. I suspected that filters may just be similar to a folder feature, but hadn't had a chance to fully try that out yet.
Understandable about the difficulty of a Windows version, but I thought it didn't hurt to ask. That is a common problem for Windows iPhone users, because both platforms want to do things their own way to keep you locked into their echo systems. Unfortunately for the work I do, I need a PC for my primary driver. Not a problem.
Eleven Labs voices would be a great idea too. Looking forward to that.
