Hi everyone,

Does anyone use KeePassXC on Mac, and if so, how's the accessibility with VoiceOver?
I'm currently on Windows using KeePass2 and am considering switching to Mac if I can find alternatives for the programs I use.
I'd appreciate any experiences you can share.

I'd recommend Strongbox for this, the official Keypassxc for Mac is written in QT and comes with all the QT issues with VO.

has been bought by aplause group. Just remember the reception of how they enshittify voicedream reader :)

Thanks for the recommendation. I used to use Strongbox on my phone and have been following the acquisition fairly closely.
While Applause haven't done anything too egregious yet, I'd hate to become dependent on it only for them to mess it up.
Mentioning Strongbox reminds me that KeePassium is also a potential solution that I need to look into.

If you already have a db and that db is locked with a keyfile, you might have some insurmountable trouble. I haven't been able to find a way to activate the button that allows you to choose the keyfile, either by normal activation commands or by mouse clicks with VO-Cmd-F5 and VO-Shift-Space. A somewhat brief tour of the app on a temporary new db, however, tells me that most if not all other functionality is achievable, albeit not the most pleasant experience for sure.

If you're comfortable in a command line environment, the CLI is perfectly fine to use with VO; this is how I tend to access my db on the Mac. For iPhone, KeePassium has been surprisingly delightful to use, so much so that I'm considering paying the yearly sub. If you do a whole lot of editing, or if you're not interested in the Mac CLI, KeePassium should serve you well.

That's good to know. I hadn't realized KeePassXC had such a full-featured CLI, but I'm glad to learn that it does.

I know, I know all about the Applause takeover, but so far they've not enshittified it the way they did VoiceDream—perhaps they learned a hard lesson from that little episode, because you can, as of now, buy lifetime licenses. I'd do that now, while you still can. Sadly I feel that it's as close to a gold-standard as you can get in the KeePass ecosystem; certainly, you're doing better in Strongbox on macOS than you are with KeePass on Doze, as good an experience as that is for the technically inclined. (But then again, if you're using KeePass, safe to say you're technically inclined.)

is aweful. The app itself is good! But I tried all sortes of weird plug ins for browser integration and none work.
Strongbox back then on ios, before I got my mac, was a charm to use though.
But anyway now I am with 1password and happy, from fedora to chromeos flex, mac, windows, iphone, works flawlessly on all.

Mmm. I used to be a 1P customer, before they went Electron and cloud-hosted. They never did offer a self-hosted option, but even though they're clearly more interested in their enterprise customers nowadays, they're obviously doing something right—certainly taking accessibility a lot more seriously than most of their competitors.

And speaking of competitors …

All SaaS software inevitably trends towards enshittification. If it's not a law of nature now, it soon will be. Watch your backs, people. At least you can still run VaultWarden, for now, but how long till the browser extension needs to be forked?
