Anyone else excited about all the rumored Ultra models of everything?

MacBook Ultra with an M-series Max or Ultra CPU and cellular connectivity so that I can finally cut off the fiber and go full cellular using the Mac as a router? iPhone Ultra that doubles as an iPad, with battery life to match, and has TouchID instead of FaceID so it can be unlocked without having to look at it the right way? Apple Watch Ultra with TouchID on the Digital Crown so that I don't have to enter the passcode after washing my hands in a public environment? AirPods Ultra with cameras and an assistive Siri? Can hardly wait to go full Ultra!

It's about time Apple finally brought touch ID back to a smart phone. Even if it is going to be an iPhone/iPad combo.
Sidenote, Cellular broadband is awesome, 6G is wonderful.

Thank you, that is all. 🙇

I might like the iPhone ultra. I’d have to look at it first to see though. Although if it’s going to be as big as an iPad, I may not like that. I don’t want a really super big phone. But I definitely wanna look at it when it does come out. And I hope they make a pink one. I won’t be able to really upgrade my existing devices yet, but I can at least look at it to see what it is like. I actually didn’t hear anything about this until this form tropic. Sounds interesting though.

It's going to be outrageously expensive, because Apple charges premium prices and the current RAM and storage demand makes things worse. I hope those who have enough money enjoy.

I would absolutely consider getting the ultra. It hits a lot of check boxes for me that led to why I have held onto my iPhone SE 2022 for as long as I have.

  • Smaller device than current iPhone models (when folded).
  • TouchID is returning to iPhone. (Hell yes!!!))
  • It will be far more pocket friendly than current iPhone models.
  • It unfolds into an iPad. While I personally have no desire to own an iPad, I owned a few in the past, the concept of an iPhone unfolding into an iPad is a novelty I wouldn't mind experiencing.

Sadly, the $2000 (reported) price point is a sticky topic. For the device to truly be worth that much, it would have to offer something far more unique to the device over other iPhones, besides touch ID.

For anyone interested, 9to5mac has an interesting article on the upcoming iPhone Ultra:

All I want is half an ultra. I 3d printed a rumoured form factor of the device and, folded, it is very nice to hold. I really can't think of any reason why I'd need that sized screen on the inside though. Guess it's the same arguments for why we want or don't want an iPad. Maybe having it in one's pocket could make it more helpful, the only application being BSI in landscape, but for the premium... Also, first gen so I'm slightly cautious.

The mac ultra is interesting. I wonder if the touch screen will be accessible and if having that spacial awareness of how things are laid out might be helpful, thinking logic pro. Thinner than the mac pro would be nicer, it's a bit of a chonky boy though I do hope they don't compromise the audio system which is probably one of the best in the business outside Asus gaming computers.

Watch? Meh. My phone unlocks my Apple Watch 11 and I rarely take it off aside from showering. I don't see any value in touch ID in that particular device.

It feels they've got the security methods a little messed up. Touch ID should always be on iPhone, Face ID on the mac... Forget the watch.

I would be, except for the fact that the price will be outrageous.

I would gladly get one, just to have touch i d back. I'm currently enjoying my 17 pro max though. I hope those who get one enjoy!

I wouldn’t be able to afford an iPhone ultra if it’s really going to be $2000. That’s crazy. Although I’m not surprised considering it’s Apple. I definitely wanna see what it looks like though. I think if I were going to get anything like that, it would have to be a few generations anyway. I’m not sure how long a folding phone would last with the screen constantly bending like that. It’s interesting. It’s going to look like an iPad but speaking going to run iOS.

As the reported price for the Iphone ultra is going to be 2000 dollars, I will not be getting it. I'm fine with not getting it though and I hope those who do get it enjoy. Also, the other products do seem interesting. I'm ok with my current devices. I might upgrade my phone next year, I will see if its worth it.

If you consider the cost of an iPhone 17 pro and then add on the price of an iPad mini 7 with cell connection, I thing you'd be edging up toward $2000.

Again, this is assuming you actually find any use in an iPad.

Apart from the latest and greatest Siri voices, my current phone should be capable of using all of the iOS 27 features. It frustrates me that the iPhone 16, which they did nothing but hipe about how it was ready for Apple Intelligence, doesn't have enough ram. I understand that it probably isn't possible on a variety of levels, but it would be nice if we could take our iPhone 16, or any other Apple Intelligence-capable models into an apple store and get more ram installed. Still, for what they're charging for new devices this year, I can't imagine myself being even remotely tempted to upgrade this year.

I was able to get my iPhone 15 for $900 but that was only because I traded in my iPad mini six generation to get the iPhone 15. That wouldn’t have happened otherwise. I really don’t understand. My phones are so crazy expensive now with the expenses of everything else going up, but it is what it is. My current devices are in perfect working order so I will keep them for as long as possible. I definitely want to at least look at the iPhone ultra though. I’m trying to picture this thing folding and like you know how long it will actually last long-term because if it constantly bending like that. So I was just going to run iOS and just look like an iPad or is it gonna run iPadOS like an iPhone? Do we know? Just curious.

From what I gather, the iPhone Ultra will have 3 screens: one for folded use like a regular iPhone and another two inside with a nearly invisible criss splitting them to use like an iPad. The iPhone Ultra and Apple Watch Ultra 4 are definitely launch day purchases for me whenever they come out here in Portugal, as I heard that the release of the iPhone Ultra will be staggered. The MacBook Ultra will only be an option for me if and when it makes sense, and I'll need to read reviews of the assistive Siri in order to decide whether the AirPods Ultra make sense.

Essentially I just hate FaceID, so the simple fact that iPhone Ultra won't have it is already a selling point for me, and so is TouchID on the Watch, a device that can make payments and unlock my Mac and iPhone can't be secured by just a numeric passcode that I have to enter using VoiceOver after washing my hands in public restrooms.

The iPhone Ultra unfolding to work like an iPad should also be great to showcase stuff to sighted humans on a bigger screen without having to lug an actual iPad, and I do expect it to include iPad functionality like the ability to attach external cameras and capture dongles. The outer screen is also rumored to be relatively small, making a folded iPhone Ultra much easier to fit in my pockets along with AirPods Pro or Ultra.

So I guess from what you’re saying this device will actually run iOS but we’ll just look like an iPad. Very interesting. I definitely can’t wait to take a look at this. Who knows maybe in a few years I’ll get something like that. I don’t know. I guess it really depends how well this product will do. I have never had an Apple Watch, a Mac, or AirPods. So I’m really not interested in those products. I still love to hear people‘s thoughts about these things once they launch.

Why do you have to unlock it each time? Are you taking the watch off to wash your hands?

the airpods ultra, though I've not heard a great deal about them, could be interesting if they do indeed have cameras, though I stick with my worry that my big fat face will occlude anything that is directly before me.

Hi João, curious what your thoughts are on potential durability of the foldable screen? I just cannot imagine how something like that could be durable long-term--but then again I have never seen anything like it and have no knowledge of the technology.
