Focus 40 blue braille display not playing nicely

Hi brains trust, I hope this one isn’t too curly for you. Most of my questions seem to be so leftfield I don’t get an answer. My fifth generation focus 40 blue braille display has come up with a row of the letter X across the display, except for the first about half a dozen cells on the left. No matter what I try to do I can’t get it out of this and it seems locked in it. It doesn’t matter whether it disconnected to anything or not. Anyone ever seen this?

It sounds like diagnostic mode. If turning the display all the way off and then powering back on doesn't clear it, this would be a Vispero technical support question I'm afraid.

Connected to what screen reader?
Connected what way bluetooth or usb and what firmware in the display the reason for this is you could be running hid on both bluetooth and usb if you are running the latest firmware 5.83-13
Anyway I would try turning the display off and turning on but keep holding the power button down for 30 to 40 seconds this may help.

If you haven't already, it would be worth trying a factory reset - it has solved quite a few strange problems with my Focus. Note that you'll lose all user settings and Bluetooth pairings, but hopefully you'll also lose the row of X's. Here are the steps:
1. Simultaneously press the Right Selector, Right Shift, and Left Mode Button (the small round button on the top left).
2. Press and hold the power button while holding these other keys.
3. The display will show an alternating pattern of dots toggling to indicate reset is complete.
4. Release the keys and the unit will reboot.

It can be a bit tricky getting all those keys pressed at the same time, so you might want to try it a couple of times if it fails at first.
