my thoughts on braile screen input on IOS8

I have found that sometimes the braille keyboard will not respond to anything you do when you first engage it and (at least for me), turn it to Away mode. I find Away Mode much easier to type with than Tabletop Mode. A lot of times I have to switch it back and forth several times between the two modes before I get any voice feedback. It seems to be much more problematic with Grade 2 braille than uncontracted. Also, it seems to work much less reliably for me with the Alex voice engaged. Just my thoughts. I, for one, hope that the developers of MBraille will continue to update their app. Frankly, I think that Apple should have gone through them for their braille keyboard as many of the bugs would probably have already been worked out. I try to typ braille on my iphone5s.
I can to write lettar and simbals, but i can not to typ the number sine.
I know that i need to typ in dots 3456, but wen i do this, i get the lettar in hebrew yod.
I think that have there manny bugs in this subject.

The braille screen input feature, in my opinion, is very nicely done for a 1.0 release. I spent some time over the last couple of days typing with it, and I had better luck than I expected, since I haven't done anything in braille for several years.

I currently can't use the contracted mode because of the typing feedback issue, but in uncontracted mode the feature works very well. I like being able to calibrate the dot positions to my liking, and I have tried out several different positions to find what I was most comfortable with. On an iPad Air, I have best results with tabletop mode, with the iPad sitting on a desk, and with the dots in a V pattern.

It is necessary to have Zoom turned off, or else dot combinations like 123 won't work properly. I also occasionally had an issue with deleting characters, where the iPad thinks I'm inserting a new symbol instead of deleting, but I think that's because I'm not performing the left swipe long enough.

A number of people have reported issues with inserting spaces, but I found that I can insert spaces reliably if I make sure the finger swipe is straight horizontal, not at an angle. If there is an angle, even a slight one, that seems to confuse the OS into not recognizing the gesture. Maybe they can update the system to be more tolerant in the swipe direction.

On the iPad, there is an eight-dot mode available. I like being able to use Nemeth-style numbers in this mode, making entering usernames and passwords easier, but I have problems doing anything with the extra two dots, perhaps because my pinky fingers are too weak. I even had trouble calibrating the dot positions in this mode since you have to tap all dots simultaneously to do this. I understand the eight-dot mode is not available on the iPhone or iPod Touch, supposedly because of limitations in the smaller touch screen.

I think I will like the braille screen input mode on the iPad, at least until they fix the Bluetooth keyboard issues.

I have a problem with typing e-mail addresses using direct braille input. When using the English keyboard, I can't find the code for underscore or for et characters (_ and @).
Does anyone know where to find a complete list of codes for English and for Romanian keyboards? One simple solution would be to switch from Braille to normal keyboard and find the characters there, but maybe there are codes that I do not know.

Is your iOS device in UEB? Unified English braille? if it is then you do dots 4 6 then dots 3 6. for an underscore
