I recommend Rode Rec. While it's payed, it doesn't cost that much, and it has features like disable IOS processing, as well as upload in ogg, mp3, wave, aiff, m4a, and many more to services like dropbox.
I personally use audio share. It's simple to use and just plain works. I might give the road rec app a try though. Cool!
The one thing I love about audio share is it normalises the file after it's recorded giving it a very good sound after you are done. Audio share also resumes recording after a phone call is taken. No need to push a button. It just plain works
Is there any way to turn the mike input down in audioshare? I want to do a podcast with it but the mike just comes blazing through smothering everything.
No, levels are fine actually, at least what I need. And remember you are dealing with a unidirectional mic so what ever it points to it will pick up and almost nothing around it. It is almost like a shot gun mic.
Agreed Sarah, I love audio share! It just works amazingly well. I used it when I was on my trip to New York last year and the recording came out amazing! you can record in background and you could even open it in other apps that support audio importing. I used to have it on my phone but removed it after upgrading to my iPhone 5s. I may get it back though.
I bought dropvox long back. But I haven't used that much. So is there any difference between audio share and dropvox? As far as I've noticed, dropvox can give only wav files. But it can be linked up with our dropbox and it can be automatically uploaded as well.
Actually audio share does not produce mp3 files, It produces wav and aac and caf files, but I don't think mp3. I just record in wave and edit later. On ething I wished it did was batch move or upload. The onlhy way is to batch move to itunes file sharing which sucks as I'm not always at the computer.
O dear, no mp3 format? that is bad. I thought audio share can convert also to mp3 format. I was about to buy that app. but awaiting for replies. Thank you.
I will be delighted to find some accessible MP3 recording apps that support background recording. I'm not sure if QuickVoice is an MP3 recorder, but I think it records in the background like if you wanted to record Audio Defence or something.
Huh? Audio share completely free. Look for audio share document manager. I personally perfer not to record in mp3 at all, pure wave or soem form of losless then I can convert if I need to, to mp3 or aac. Here is the link to audio share. It is way way cool! https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/audioshare-audio-document/id543859300?mt=8
You can upload to dropbox so long as the file size does not reach or go above 150 mb
You can if you want to put the files in to transmit and upload when you get home over your local network.
This to me is the best app, that on top of ht recorder which I use if I'm doing quiet recordings that won't clip the mic. I no longer need to record direct to mp3, why when I can save to a better encoder on the computer and make edits if necessary?
It is not free here in India. 190 rupees. which means nearly 3 dollars. I was asking for mp3 because those files are short and will not occupy much space.
I have found dropvox unreliable in the past especially when it comes to uploading recordings to dropbox if you navigate away from the app whilst it is uploading. Does dropvox continue recording after recieiving a call? I didn't think it did
I'm using dropvox. As far as I've noticed, it is not recording while if we get any call at the middle. But that is continuing doing it's job as soon as we're finishing that call. It is also uploading even after calls though.
Hi Raj,
I've contacted the developer of SimpleMic, telling them to please include MP3 recording option in the app. I will hopefully I'll get a reply and if I do I will post a comment on this forum. So just stay subscribed.
Actually, MP3 is not the best format in terms of quality vs Space. If you don't have any other reason for using it, like your preferred sound editor only supporting that format, using M4a/AAC, which are both basically the same thing, will let you record in lower in higher quality than with MP3 using the same amount of space. It's licensing state is much more straight forward than with Mp3 which is why many recording apps don't support it, it's currently a mess and will stay like this for another 2 years until the MP3 patents expire.
I don't do very many voice recordings, but when the need arrises, I almost always use dropvox. It automatically uploads, and I think you can change what file format it uses in settings.
I just bought that app audio share. now I just wanted to know is there any podcasts available for this? or walk through? I tried trimming but no success. But I got success with converting mp3 to m4a though. I'm planning to make a ring tone as my own.
I know thi smaty sound dum but I am new to this and I find this talk very interesting but can someone tell me what the term back recording actually mean, sorry...
captain batman: Background recording means that if you go out of the app to go read your mail while the app is recording, it will still record.
Raj:
Hi Raj, I've finally received the reply about SimpleMic and including mp3 recording. It says this:
Thanks for the feedback! I'll look into the feasibility of this, it all depends on what the Apple audio hardware offers.
The e-mail was from Nick.
It's ok. even if they say no. I'll satisfy with that dropvox. Since that is recording on mp3 format though. Only disturbance with that app is, it is not recording while we get a phone call in between. lol.
I was recommended dropvox and use to record the meetings I attend each month. While I prefer to save in mp3, it automatically will upload through LTE or WIFI. You can turn off the LTE uploading if you wish, and it does resume recording when you end a call. No recording app will record a phone call, a limitation of IOS is what I'm told. I can see the reasons why not to record in mp3, and I may change this for my next meeting to see if it sounds any better. The app is very accessible and straightforward. I do have HT recorder bookmarked, and waas wondering what it could do differently than dropvox can. Interesting discussion.
I just wanted to say thank you for your kindness I just read the first one, but now that I think about it I should after reading the second one say thanks to to the second one.
I am very happy to be in this group I am learning so much thank you everyone and I assure that I will make my post shorter I am very sorry
greetings I have a recording question myself that I'd like your recommendation on. I do audio teasers for kidfriendly software and here is my situation; I'd like to be able to have recorder pick up specific app sound and all it does when game app open and have it do that when I wear ear buds for best playing:) have a good one.
I personally only have a headset on bluetooth and the phone, I don't have stereo, although, I'll investigate it more. When I open these files currently, it sometimes asks a question which escapes me, but this is something to investigate more fully. Do you happen to know the option off hand?
Voice Recorder DX2 is another cool voice recorder that is very powerful and senses little noises, like tapping on your phone or iPad. It has Noise Reduction feature as well as Voice Mask to hide your real identity. This sensing thing is not a bug or anything it's just how powerful the recorder is.
The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and easy to navigate and use. The buttons are labeled strangely, but it is very easy to find out what they do.
If VoiceOver hits a button called Mic1, these are your recording settings. If you hit something called Rec nor, that's the record button. Doc nor is the documents section, AKA where your recordings are stored.
Asking me about other buttons? Submit them here! :)
Bonus Features: MP3 recording support
Sharing on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and lots more!
I remember reading about an app that records but does not save until you hear something you want to save. When you trigger it the app goes back a minute or two and saves a recording starting from that point. Anyone know which app it is?
Never heard of it yet and I've tried a lot of recorders. If it is rev, do not get that recorder. It's accessible but the job of transcription is not and they refuse to work with the visually impaired so I have basically put them on strike. They told me not to ask why6 I was rejected even though I brought up to the staff what was going on. See http://tffppodcast.com/listen for more info and look for my rants category
Hey guys,
So, some modifications to VR DX2 has taken place. VR meaning voice recorder.
The buttons are labeled correctly now.
The UI scheme button will switch the background of the app.
I want to thank you in advance, meaning, I just read from my in box what you said about the vx2, I think you called it, I am 61 years old and my memory is pretty bad so I will go back to read your post again to make sure I get this right and I assure you to let you know how I do or do not like it but I am very excited at the idea of having something that would do the trick. Me for exemple, I get 3 procast every day that I love but don't always have the time to listen to them right a way, I don't know how to spell the name of those guys but Rachel someone from msnbc and bill oreilly from fox, I like those bvecause of course one is very from the right and one from the left, so this way I get the 2 different point of vew on the same story, so later I will let you know for sure and thank you again.
