So my iphoe 4s has broken down. it wont turn on with or without a charger.i tried holding the home button and the off button at the same time. someone please help!
Hi,
This sounds like the battery is gone on your 4S. Don't press both the power/home buttons at the same time.If your phone won't turn on, just hold the power button, not the home button with the power button. Hope that makes sense. Theres no need to hold the home button while holding the power button unless you want to reset your phone.

i tried all things mentioned ecxept calling apple.i replaced the battery ages ago so i think i may of voided the warranty especially as it was bought a while ago :P
I would recommend trying to connect your iPhone via USB cable to iTunes. That way you can see if the device is completely unresponsive, or iTunes acknowledges it with an error. It may provide useful troubleshooting information.
At this point, I would likely try http://www.imore.com/how-to-iphone-ipad-dfu-mode. Remember that if you don't get it right, you can keep trying it over and over until you perform it correctly; it is designed to not be easy to accomplish.
DFU Mode might be the most intelligent thing to try at this point. I don't ever like to say this but I believe the phone might be toast at this point. Try putting the phone in DFU mode and see what it does, and if it doesn't resolve the issue, take it to an Apple store. I know the battery might've been replaced once, but hopefully an Apple store employee will be nice and help out if necessary.

Try
Try connecting it to the charger, then pressing just the power button six times. It should turn on.
I think you should call apple
I think you should call apple and tell them what the problem is.

Try a DFU restore

DFU mode to the rescue!
