Hi All,
I know how to enter my e-mail address on my phone, but I understand that depending on how I set it up that there's one way where when I delete a message from the phone it's basically gone and can't be downloaded anymore and then there's another way where messages stay on the e-mail server and could be downloaded to my computer later on.
Since I'm just now trying to do this I want messages to be able to be downloaded to both the phone and the computer until I get used to manipulating messages on the phone, but later on I'll only want messages to go to either the phone or the computer and be deleted from the server when I delete them from either place and I wondered if someone can explain the different ways to set things up so these 2 things can happen. Btw the e-mail address I'll be entering on the phone is a pop3 account and it's set up that way on my computer.

The only way to keep messages
The only way to keep messages is you can keep them in the trash folder. That way they can stay on the server until you choose to delete them permenantly. The trash folder is available on both your iPhone and the computer. Or, you can keep your messages in your inbox. You can also archive your messages.
Some information here
This Apple support page provides information on how to configure POP email accounts on iOS and OS X if you wish to access them on multiple devices: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201855
However, it might be worth biting the bullet and switching to using IMAP for the account, as things might get a little messy trying to do what you appear to want.
