At work I have a 2011 iMac running the latest version of Yosemite. I am having an odd and annoying issue when trying to select a contiguous or sequential list of files. If I use shift-up arrow to select a list of files I am able to select them with no problems. If I use shift-down arrow I hear VoiceOver say "help menu" and the help menu from the menu bar opens up. This happens whether quick nav is turned on or off. Does anybody have a clue as to why this is happening?

problems using shift down arrow
First open keyboard preferences.
The easiest way to do this is to go to spotlight with command space type in keyboard and press enter to open keyboard preferences.
Next vo right arrow to the shortcuts tab and then press vo space bar on it.
Next open item chooser with vo i.
Next press the down arrow to get to app shortcuts and press enter to jump to it.
Next press vo j to jump to the the app shortcuts table and then open item chooser again.
Next go down to the check box that says show help menu and then press vo space bar to jump to it.
Next tab to the edit box where you can change the shortcut then you should be finished.
the shortcut that is supposed to be for launching the help menu is command shift slash.
Toggling Multiple Selection on and Off in Finder
Hello,
In order to toggle multiple selection on and off to select files in Finder that are not in a sequence, does cursor tracking have to be disabled?
For example, let's say you interact with the table with the list of files, you want to select files 2, 4, and 6, and don't want files 1 3, and 5 selected.
Is Toggling Multiple Selection on with Control+Option+Command+Enter the easiest way to do this, after interacting with the table, and pressing Control+Option+Down Arrow to navigate to the files that you want to select?
Is there a more efficient way to do this using the keyboard?
Thank you,
Ali
Learning the keystroke for voice over
This has become one of my problems ever since I started using an Apple computer. Let's say you have multiple icons on a Windows desktop and you want to delete some of them, the first thing to do is to hold down on the Control key while pressing on any of the Arrow keys, and when you find the one . you want to delete you press the space bar to select it, And you repeat the same process over and over until you find all the unwanted. icons, and finally you press the delete button to erase all of them. However I have no clue how to do it on a Mac using voiceover. Could anyone help me solve this problem? Thank you.
Hi. Press Control+Option
Hi. Press Control+Option+Command+Enter if I remember right on each of the files you want to select. On the first file you need to do it twice. Then delete or copy or whatever you want to do as normal. HTH
Selecting icons
Thank you very much Mr. David! It did work. However I remember reading one of those quick tips and if I'm not mistaken there was another way to do it, if you happen to know about that link please be kind enough to post it here so I can take a look at it. Again, Thank you very much
