Hi all. I've noticed along with the new sound on IOS10, there's a very quiet lock sound when you hit the power button. I don't think there's a way to turn this up, I'd like it there was. If you turn off Voice over, and click the power button, it's a lot louder then when speech is on. It makes some sense, voice over is probably reading, so the sound is quieter. I just would like to be able to hear it better then always double checking the screen is locked. I hope this makes some sense, I thought there was a sound effects volume somewhere? btw, this has nothing to do with audio ducking, which personally Idisable every time, I'm not a fan of it. :) thanks for any help.

I too have the same issue
In fact, I like the spoken text better. I wish it was an option.
Thanks for bringing this up. I thought it was just my bad hearing.

I don't mind the sound.
Hi. personally i don't like always hearing confirmation, screen locked, if the sound is enough for me. I agree if the option were to exist, i would personally turn that off as I'd rather not have my phone up in a noisy place, set it down and pusht he button to hear "Screen locked!!!!" It's just me though. Actually I did also submit feedback, I asked if maybe they can either let you turn up the volume of that sound, and other voice over sound effects if you want, so you don't have to always hear the loud clicks when the volume is up, but also have haptick feedback when you lock the screen. To my knowledge, this was part of the beta, I don't know why they took it out, as i'm sure for someone who's deaf blind, this would be fabulous for them. Here's hoping something happens.
Want old sound
I just want the old lock sound back you should be able to pick. Also I don't think Vo needs its own lock sound.
I can go either way on that sound.
For the little chirp, sometimes that's all you hear when you click the power button, but it isn't to bad for me. remember about the new lock sound, everyone has it, not just you. I don't mind either sound, but yeah I guess you could pick either if you wanted. Maybe others should submit feedback enhancement requests for these things, I did my part. :) Glad I got a positive discussion going.
Intermitent voice over chirp when locking the phone.
Hello all. Just wanted to touch on something @Jeff bright up. He isn't crazy about the chirp, again this might be where if they don't let you pick it, you can turn down the sounds, that being one of them. I also locked my phone four times. twice, it clicked, chirped. The other two, it clicked, nothing was chirped, so I'm not quite sure what's up. Just thought i'd let you all know.
About the churp.
No the churp is a Voiceover sound there's another lock sound that's really quiet. I think I will write to them cause the churp makes no sence to me.
Do you mean the click sound that's the quiet one?
Hi Jeff. do you mean the click sound you hear if you put the phone right against your hear and push the sleep wake button? If yes, this is the sound I would like the volume increased or at least user difinable. As it is, turn off voice over, andpush the button, you'll hear a vast improvement on the volume. Turn voice over on again, and you'll get the barely audible click. Maybe the "chirp" both of us are talking about is the same thing? :) I'd be fine with how things are just increasing that sound volume, or as I said disabling the screen locked feature as ifind that particcularly annoying. If i have some form of audible feedback, I'm good. :) here's hoping Apple might hear us. or at least others besides you and I write to them. Have a good one.
Yeah
The Churp is only while locking for Voiceover I think it took the place of saying screen lock for some reason. However if the lock sound was the better IOS9 lock sound it wouldn't have to say screen locked either as the lock sound would be loud enough.
I feel your pain
I liked when it did the sound of the lock turning & said `screen locked` I've reported this to accessibility line.
I've been debating trying this as an experiment. Is it possible to have it say `screen locked` if i disable the lock screen sound? Just wondering...
Screen Locked
If you want it to say screen locked you have to turn off the Voiceover sounds because the churp is a Vo lock sound. It makes no sence to me why there are 2 lock sounds now but there you have it.
the chirp
The chirp is an extra sound that replaces VoiceOver saying screen locked. personally, I love it and don't think it should change at all. As to wether it could be louder? Possibly but I don't mind it how it is now either.
Love the chirp!
Hi,
I love the chips. every time I lock my phone at night, I love hearing the chirp. I usually turn speech off, then lock my phone. Apple has finally done something to make it easyer for users to lock the phone. I love both the new lock sound, and the extra voiceover chirp.
Thanks jammacradio...
You missed the point. I asked if anyone wanted it increased, not if you loved it. Can you contribute something, besies your addoration with the sound? Thanks. ;)
הscreen lock sound!
Hi i think that it's grate there are a new sound, but like others i think that this sound is week and it does very hard to hear in pablick places. i think at wee needs to ask from apple to increes the sound and in genaraly all sounds of VoiceOver
experiment on the locking sound
Hi all.
What I do is, first, triple click the home button to turn VO off. Next, press volume up key to get the loudest volume possible and lock the screen once. Then use touch ID to unlock the screen, then triple click to turn VO back on. Finally, turn the volume down again, and you should have the lock sound volume on a similar level with VO. Note, locking the screen when VO finishes talking or when the talking is paused would give you great effect. This also temporarily solves the problem of alert sounds being sometimes too quiet.
Hope it helps!
Lock sounds.
I turn VO sounds off. I have found that, for me, it is faster not to have the VO sounds on. In fact, I find most of the sounds drive me a bit nuts. This is the same for my Mac as well. I guess that you can call me a bit silly. I know I have been called worse things. Oh, I like the new stock lock sound.
It did not work for me
David, that experiment did not work for me. I am happy this topic is garnering a lot of attention. Can someone tell me how can I increase the volume of Voiceover, something that is being referred to many times in this thread. Thanks and hope the Apple accessibility team is listening to this thread.
Thanks for your reply
It's OK. I'm only suggesting, because it worked for me. Strange. But hope you can find a way to solve this problem. Good luck! :)
