question about bootcamping my mac

You ought to have no problem, but will require sighted assistance to do so. The minimum Windows OS you can install is Windows 8. I have bootcamped my 2014 MacBook Air with 4Gb Ram and could not be happier with the result.

It should not, but once you create that partition if you want to shrink it you must reinstall windows and redoo the boot camp partition. This is why I took mine off and go VM instead.

As k7zum indicated you would need sighted assistance to do the bootcamp install. the other issue I ran in to after trying this several years ago was being unable to determine when to make the choice of mac or windows during the machine startup process since there is no speech at that time.
With that in mind I decided to remove bootcamp and go with a virtual machine using vmware. this product by the way is the only virtual machine product I am aware of that will allow the assistive technology such as windows screen readers to operate.
As for where to get windows, you might try amazon, perhaps you can still get windows 7 however I would recommend moving to windows 10 at this point.

Maybe other people's experiences have been different, but from my personal experience I'd strongly recommend against using a VM for playing audio games. My VM worked well enough for basic tasks but once I got into anything like a game that required more processing power it would get very slow. On the other hand, my Bootcamp machine works as well or better than any Windows machine I've ever owned. And you have tons more hard drive space than me so you should be fine.

Regarding the issue with selecting the startup disk when booting, this shouldn't be an issue either. Install something like Bootchamp and you can choose to boot directly from one OS into the other. So when i'm done playing my game on Windows, I just go to Bootchamp in the task bar, select "Restart in Mac OS", and the computer restarts. Since I have a SSD, the whole process takes maybe 10 seconds. If I happen to boot into the "wrong" OS, it's no big deal because I can just reboot into the one I want by using Bootchamp.

Oh by the way, my Bootchamp actually gives me an error when trying to reboot into Windows, which is annoying, but even this isn't a problem, since you can go to the Startup Disc panel in the System Preferences and select a drive to boot into from there. Couple extra steps, but works just as well.

I use vmware to play games, in fact it is very responsive with a key board delay of about 169MS. I even use a vm to do my school work if any.

Well, I'm a little envious of your success. What sort of games are you playing? My MBP has 8GB of RAM and a decent processor so I'm assuming your specs aren't that much better than mine, unless you have something top-of-the-line? It's entirely possible my experience is unique to me, but all I know is that the games I tried on my VM did not play nice.

so to get the Windows 10 iso file for bootcamp, go to insider.windows.com. if you're not signed up for Microsoft's Windows Insider Program, do so at this point. then go to download and after selecting for PC the iso should be their ready to download. If you go this root, you'll be a beta tester, willing or not. this is the only legal way tp get Windows.

You can purchase WINDOWS from Microsoft's website. You'll need to use a media tool kit to convert the file in to an iso file. You can also BootCamp your Mac without sighted assistance. You'll just have to do a few extra things. so now that Windows 10 is available for purchase, people who want to bootcamp with Windows 10 have two choice of getting it for free, through the Windows Insider Program, or buying it through Microsoft. it's good theirs a choice for those people who have no interest in beta testing.
