App that can read fast food restaurant menu

Hello it's carlos, I was talking to a friend of mine who is a new iPhone user. And he asked me if I knew of an app that could read the menus on fast food restaurant boards. Such as in a McDonald's or Burger King or something you know how they have menus on the boards people look at them. I told him I didn't know but I thought I would ask. Thanks for any help, carlos

I detest or hate fast food, so I'm not one to ask, but I'd get the app see how that goes.

I think what the prior poster meant was to download the apps specific to each restaurant. Almost all of them are not accessible though so it's not worth it. A few of them I have been able to read some things, but not enough to be useful. Here are a few that I use from time to time, not including pizza delivery places:

  • Starbucks: Pretty much a given since they seem to be one of the few mainstream places that "gets" accessibility. Everything I've tried to do in the app seems to work. I don't use it a lot though, maybe someone else could be more specific.
  • Jimmy Johns: This has a few oddly labelled buttons, but it doesn't impact the usefulness of the app. You can make an account and build an order either to pick up or have them deliver it to you. I haven't tried this yet, though. IF all you want is a menu to look at though, there's a nice tab for that at the bottom of the screen that works well.
  • SUBWAY: Pretty much the same thing here. I've found a couple of odd quirks when navigating around, but it works great. They started making accessibility changes a few months ago. You can find a location close to you and mark it as a favorite. I used the app to order a head of time once and it told me it would be ready 15 minutes later. It was ready and waiting when I walked in. Made me feel like I was living in the future. If you want to go old school and just order when you get there, you can use the app to pay, and it'll even add points to your rewards card it you have those. I haven't used this since I got my SE and started using Apple Pay, although ironicly that adds an extra step since I have to get my points card out of my wallet anyway.
  • Dennys: OK so it doesn't really count as fast food, but using the app to browse their menu is exactly like I used to think stuff like this would work in the future. It doesn't list prices, but the interface is awesome. Way faster, for me at least, than browsing a more than likely outdated Braille menu. Not surprising that the app works as well as it does though since they worked with the ACB.

As of today, August 2017, the MacDonald's app is accessible and the menu is easy to read. Burger King on the other hand appears accessible, but when you tap on a choice, another choice appears. So when I picked sandwiches, it showed me drinks; when I picked burritos, it showed me sweets. Annoying.
Carls Jr. is called SSR rewards and requires you sign up for an account. Crazy if all you want to do is read the menu. But after you bypass this hurdle it is acceptable. Like MacDonalds the nutrition info is also easy to read.

Wendy's KFC and Taco Bell can be struggled through but the websites are better; find their sites with Safari and look for links to "food" or "menu".

BlindSquare also features menus but they are not always current or accurate for your location. Nevertheless they are easy to read and I usually use BlindSquare first, select three choices, and the fast food place usually has one of them.

My husband loves fast food more than me so when I get home from work, I often have only a few minutes to figure out what I want. Jack In the Box has a particularly accessible site, but an inaccessible app.
