adding a website to the dock

Hi,
I'm trying to drag a website from Safari to the dock:
I opened Safari, opened the site, went to the address bar, interacted with it and pressed vo+colomn, then I opened the doc, went past the separator and pressed vo+full stop but it wouldn't work.
Any ideas?

Unfortunately, you can't do it that way. Try saving it to the home screen first. From there you should be able to move it to the dock.

Thanks, how do I save it to the home screen? The file - save as won't let do me that, it would let me save the page which isn't what I want to do.
