Developer Question about game and gameplay preferences

By mentalhome.eu, 7 June, 2018

Forum
iOS and iPadOS Gaming

For our upcoming game FEER we are on a crucial crossing of development. So we want to hear the opinion of you all.

A good game has to offer a complex structure to be entertaining and worthwhile being played for a longer time.
But to get all the essential information to navigate and understand the gameplay, it is a little overwhelming at the beginning,
sometimes a little hard to get into. That is, what we learned from our first pre-testers.

so my question:
How do you get along with games, that take a time to get into, by learning more and more to get better
or
do you all prefer easy games, quick to get into, with the disavantage, that they maybe get boring too fast.

infos about the game can be found here and if you leave a like there, we keep you informed:

Hey Feer! Good question! I’d prefer to die 100 times to get the concept of a game rather than playing for an hour and never play again. I think that’s the main focus when talking about iOS games. We have lots of simple games and games that are easy for kids. Good luck with the development of Feer! I can’t wait to try it! All the best

A good question

It's a good question, but a question that will get you different answers. Personally, I don't mind losing. However, I don't like being stuck forever either. With that being said, I don't really know how to answer your question. Perhaps when a player loses way too many times, a cheat menu could pop up or something? Like I said, I don't mind losing. I just don't want to be stuck forever either. I guess that's why some people use the term make or break. Some people gets better, while others simply gets annoyed after a while.

I agree with Matheus on this.

I agree with Matheus on this. Not only in iOS games, but mac games as well. Make a multi-platformer game that can be run on iOS, MacOS, windows, etc. Or is that what you guys are doing, I don't remember. I prefer a difficult game over easy games where it's just aim and shoot, and get it centered. A game that is very long, and has a story mode to it like certain video games.

Makin' it easy or hard

I prefer to work my way and truly earn what happens and I will get bored fast if it doesn't keep my mind busy.

Thanks for asking us!

A good game, at least for me, has to be challenging. The more difficult the game, the more I enjoy it. Specially with a game where we can find a good storyline and a nice concept.

It also has to have excellent sound effects. A game like yours will definitely grab my attention if it presents a Great challenge and, of course, if it is recorded in binaural sound. Well, that's a topic for another thread, I suppose. :-)
I can't wait to start playing this very promising game.
Cheers.

here's what I think

hi! all,
I think a good sound quality is a very good point to let people enjoy the game
and from time to time it has instructions to tell us how to get around and has a help menu is good

I prefer games with substance and good game mechanics. I would much rather they take time to learn than have them easy and won quickly. I've never once beaten King of Dragon Pass but have enjoyed playing it for years now. Its complexity and replay value keeps me coming back for more.

an upcoming game, we develope at the moment.
Thx to you all for your replies, it matches with our idea to have a challenging game,
even when it has a bit of a learning curve to get into.
Hopefully we can betatest soon.
