Recommendation about buying of new iPhone after the Apple event 2018

Given the nature of your comments above, you have missed out on one opportunity that can bring you from touch ID to Face ID! That is last year‘s iPhone 10! Apple has officially discontinued selling this handset on their website but, there are many carrier specific deals out there that you can take advantage of right now! Usually you can save a bundle by purchasing last year‘s model on contract from your provider as they want to move out stock accordingly! Hope this helps cheers… Rocker

Hello Anders. I think the first thing that one has to consider is the amount of cash available for purchasing a new iPhone. Let's say that you have enough to purchase whichever device you please. Then it comes down to what do you prefer.

If you really like the idea of having the maximum amount of memory available, then the 10S or 10S Max would be your choice as you can now have up to 512 GB of storage space.

If keeping the home button for as long as you can, then the iPhone 8 or 8+ would be the logical choice. If you are concerned about the loss of the home button and being able to use the newest iPhones, don't worry because there are new ways to access the phone that have replaced the home button.

These are just a couple of things to consider for making your next purchase. Basically, you have to decide what is the most important things that you want out of your next device, examine if you have enough cash for that purchase and then decide from there.

As usual, this forum is always here for you to read about the latest devices and continue to seek additional opinions until you can make the best decision that fits you personally.

The new iPhones from this event don't really interest me. Sure, the iPhone X itself from last year is a great device; I've had mine since January, and love it. I got my iPhone X with 256GB, in space grey, and don't regret the purchase. The XS and XS max truely don't interest me. Kinda like the iPhone 8 and 8 plus from last year. Also, anders, for your information... All iPhones from the 6 up to todays model will run iOS 12. It's just the XS, XS max and XR will probably ship with 12 on them as opposed to the X last years device with iOS 11 on it

Hi, Considering the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X all use the same processor and i’m currently using an X which is so blazing fast its unreal, Snapdragon processors have bearly even caught up in the year since it was launched. I would say your decision is more about cost and Touch vs Face ID. The 8 will be incredibly inexpensive this year and its processor is only 15% slower than the Xs. Face ID is great but I am not sure I would spend the extra to get it over Touch ID. They both have their advantages. Touch doesn’t work when your finger is wet and does work in your pocket but face doesn’t work in bed unless you turn it to be the same orientation as your head, i.e. you can’t hold it at 90 degrees to right way up. So Processors are all amazing in last years and this years phones. Make your decision on money and touch vs face ID. BTW all phones back to 5s will run current OS so don’t worry about that either. I would guess you will get at least 5 years support from either 8 or Xs

It all depends on your budget.

Someone mentioned getting last year’s X but be aware, Apple discontinued it instead of offering it at a discount. Cellular providers may offer a discount so check them out if you want an X.

Here are my thoughts on the hardware.
The processor speed makes a difference when you are gaming, using augmented reality or anything graphic intensive work.
OLED vs. LCD. OLED is worth it if you have enough usable vision to enjoy it.
Two vs. one rear camera lens.Two rear camera lens are great if you can see the pictures well enough to appreciate the details. But if you only use OCRs and apps like tap tap see or be my eyes, two camera lens will not make a difference.

With that in mind, I would purchase the XR. It cost a bit more than the 8 but less than the XS. It is also a current model so you can be sure it will get OS updates for at least four more years.

I have an 8 from last Sept. it’s a great phone. Started with X, but had to return. FaceID didn’t like my cloudy eyes. Worked for everyone else.
The better value is XR if you want newest. Being LCD, it should have better battery. OLED screens are a battery drain, and they don’t matter if completely blind.
