Hi,
I hope that this is the right section of the forum to post. The subject pretty much says it. I am wondering if there is a way to reply directly to post that people post on a website. For example, if I’m following a topic, and I want to reply directly to a comment, the only thing I know to do is type in RE: and then the name of the subject to which I’m replying. Is there an easier way? Also, if needed, how do I mention users directly. I’ve seen this happen before in the website, where it will link to users and posts. Hope this makes sense. Please let me know. Thanks

You can paste the name of who you want to send it. Perhaps this might help. LLC.
I had a memory...
I think they tried that once, but something didn't work out with it.
Another thing that you might come across is someone will have left the site as a member and all their posts are deleted. You'll see a bunch of people commenting to something that isn't there, or a post that replies to something without any context.
Then there are the people who really are just posting in a thread, talking to someone who didn't post...
Thanks all
Much appreciated. Just wanted to make sure I am not missing anything @Holger Fiallo @OldBear
They tried and it didn't work
It was roled back in less than a week last year. Good memories lmao.
About That Experiment that Lasted Less than a Day...
The change @OldBear and @TheBlindGuy07 are referencing is our il-faded attempt at enabling threaded discussions on the site. It lasted less than a day and was a fantastic mess. I'm still glad we tried it though!
@Joe G - We unfortunately do not have any built-in functionality for mentioning people or replying to specific comments. As far as replying to specific comments, I would like to see if we can work out a solution to bring that functionality back. While threaded comments is obviously a no-go, we did have what I assume was a module for a simple reply functionality several years ago. Thanks for the questions and suggestions.
Comment numbers.
Can we not go back to numbering each comment? I actually liked that and you could then say replying to number 25 etc. Not sure why it never came back. I recall it was there for sometime then was removed with the idea it would come back but it never did.

I think numbering the comments would be a great idea. If nothing else, we can use that numbering system to search for a particular comment or use it as a reference point. For example, the 12th comment on the third page of the thread labeled, "insert thread title here".
re: numbered comments
We did have that feature for a while, and it was good while it lasted. I’m not sure why they removed it, but I can see one possible issue.
What happens if a comment gets removed for whatever reason? That has happened before. If comment 3 is removed, the remaining comments would probably be renumbered. So instead of the thread showing comments 1, 2, 4, and 5, comment 4 would move up to become comment 3, and comment 5 would become comment 4.
Hopefully that makes sense. I nearly confused myself trying to explain it.
