Replying to posts, and mentioning people

Hi,
I hope that this is the right section of the forum to post. The subject pretty much says it. I am wondering if there is a way to reply directly to post that people post on a website. For example, if I’m following a topic, and I want to reply directly to a comment, the only thing I know to do is type in RE: and then the name of the subject to which I’m replying. Is there an easier way? Also, if needed, how do I mention users directly. I’ve seen this happen before in the website, where it will link to users and posts. Hope this makes sense. Please let me know. Thanks

You can paste the name of who you want to send it. Perhaps this might help. LLC.

I think they tried that once, but something didn't work out with it.
Another thing that you might come across is someone will have left the site as a member and all their posts are deleted. You'll see a bunch of people commenting to something that isn't there, or a post that replies to something without any context.
Then there are the people who really are just posting in a thread, talking to someone who didn't post...

The change @OldBear and @TheBlindGuy07 are referencing is our il-faded attempt at enabling threaded discussions on the site. It lasted less than a day and was a fantastic mess. I'm still glad we tried it though!

@Joe G - We unfortunately do not have any built-in functionality for mentioning people or replying to specific comments. As far as replying to specific comments, I would like to see if we can work out a solution to bring that functionality back. While threaded comments is obviously a no-go, we did have what I assume was a module for a simple reply functionality several years ago. Thanks for the questions and suggestions.
