Hi all. I work with a lot of blind young people in my job, and recently I have been asked this a few times. What GPS apps do people use? Personally I like the built in Apple maps. I like that I can just see a list of the directions on a route, but for me the big thing that it is missing is information such as, it will say in 100 yards turn left, but it won't say if this is the first left, or the second or third etc.
iOS and iPadOS
Hi,
I am looking for an accessible GPS that will work with my iPhone 3GS while I'm out walking. I have an older Humanware "Trekker" unit, but you have to use the little satallite device along with a speaker & the PDA so it's a bit cumbersome. Also since the device is older, it doesn't always work as well as I would like it to when walking.
I've looked at Navigon, but it's expensive and some of the reviews i've encountered say it's a memory hog, isn't always accurate & more for driving than walking.
Hi,
I am looking for a navigation app that would let me enter an address for a destination and obtain directions. After it gives me the route, I would like to be able to search points of interests along my route and then select one point as an intermediate destination. Hardware GPS products like Garmin have this functionality but these products are not accessible. Is there any accessible iOS app that have this feature?
Thanks
Charlie
Hi!
I am looking for a GPS app that is accessible for the blind, and it doesnāt have to be free.
How is Google maps? Is it good in terms of giving turn by turn directions?, Does it have any voice guidance feature? How is blind square? Is that app good? Looking forward to get suggestions recommendations, and reviews of the apps that Iāve mentioned.
Stay safe and healthy!
Hi all,
As many of you are aware, I have been working with a focus group on developing apps targetied to Low Vision and Blind folks. During the discussion group we found a very strong desire is to have a GPS based navigation app created that would be accessible and fill in some specific needs for the blind.
I usually use BlindSquare for GPS on my iPhone 5S. My only complaint is that it constantly tells me my location while walking, like every 2-3 seconds. All I want it to automatically tell me is the next crossing and any POIs nearby. When I turn off announcements, then it doesn't tell me anything.
Is there a way to make BlindSquare only say what I want? Or is there another app that will, automatically? I don't want to be always messing around with an app, when I'm walking around.
Thanks.
Tracy
Hello guys, i want to know, how to use grafic eq in vlc for iOS...
Hi there,
One more question for you! Does anyone know a good accessible way to grammar check on iPad? I know about spelling; I'm looking for grammar specifically!
Thanks!
Hello
The Grammarly Keyboard is a touch screen keyboard that automatically corrects spelling and grammar errors. Does anyone here know how accessible it is with VoiceOver?
I'm just beginning my iPhone journey as a blind user. I've noticed that Speech Rate Adjustments within the Voiceover function can only be made at increments of 10%; at least that is what I am encountering so far. Unfortunately 50% is a bit too slow and 60% is too fast; at least at this stage of my journey. I'm a veteran JAWS user and can deal with a very accelerated speech rate under normal circumstances but until I am better acclimated to iPhone and Voiceover I would like to know if there is a way to make Speech Rate Adjustments in lower increments than 10%.
Hello Applevis.
I was wondering if you know of any apps that you can draw graphs with. I am taking a statistics class this year and I want to work paperless. Have any suggestions?
I know that parts won't be totally accessible to a blind user, but I do have some vision.
Thank you for the suggestions.
Have a great day.
I am in an advanced math class and will be enrolling in another one next year. I need a graphing calculator or a scientific one with advanced functions. I have seen a few apps in the app store for both, and am wondering if any of them are accessible with VoiceOver. I have some graphing calculator software installed on my computer, but it isn't very accessible. Does anyone know of an app or a stand alone graphing calculator that is accessible?
Thanks so much,
Holly
Hi all! I just gave the app called Great Courses a try on my iPhone 6 Plus. I couldn't set up past creating a user account. The mobile site is not accessible past being able to reading it and clicking some of the links. The buttons are not accessible. The app is not a help either until you are already set up barring creating a new user account. Have you also incountered this problem?
Hello.
I am looking for accessible apps that have either the Greek New Testament/Septuagint and/or the Latin Vulgate.
Iāve tried locating these versions on apps like BibleGateway but I have had little luck finding them there.
(Incidentally, I reported a bug where I get English for Latin on BibleGateway and the tech support guy told me to ārestart my phoneā, etc., etc. š)
Anyway, thanks for any help!
