Wouldn't this be more practical? I know this may not be the most appropriate way to post this suggestion, but it's because something I suggested earlier was not implemented that I had to do it like that. We should have a dedicated category for posts and threads pertaining to AppleVis itself so that I don't have to pick Accessibility Advocacy every time I post something about the forum and website and posts on AppleVis don't remain scattered around.

Not sure if you're talking…
Not sure if you're talking about the mobile layout but if not, the search box is totally showing up for me here. If it's the mobile layout, then that could be practical without cluttering up screen space.
I agree
On chrome on windows I must click the Main Menu button before getting the edit field at the end of that newly expended menu.
Regarding chrome on windows,…
Regarding chrome on windows, if the window isn't maximized, Chrome's window size is reported that way and responsive sites go to mobile layout. To fix it, maximize the window and make sure your zoom is set to normal.
f12 may help
no matter you are using Microsoft Edge
or google chrome.
press f12 will switch to full screen then the edit field will be here.
f12 is not f + 12 it is on the function key row
I agree
I talk about the mobile website layout.
When I want to surch something I need to press on the "main menu" button in order to reach to the surch box.
Chrome
Actually for chrome certainly in the uk F11 is the key for this. F12 takes you in to dev tools.
Agreed
That would definitely be more convenient.
There's now a search button/heading at the top of the page.
It's silly, why not just expose the search box? We shouldn't care about how pretty it makes the site, as long as it works.
Disagree with the previous poster
As a web dev, if I'm developing a site, I care on how a site looks so saying that we, shouldn't care on how the site looks from a visual standpoint is somewhat wrong in my view. A site should be accessible and look good visually at the same time if sighted people visits said website which, if I recall, there are some sighted people who do visit this site so I think it's just as important for it to look okay visually as well.
Re: Disagree with the previous poster
Thank you, Jonathan. While I am not a professional or trained web developer, I strive to ensure this site provides the best possible experience for all users and follow best practices where I can.
Brad, your comment says to me that what was perhaps “silly” here was me giving up time over my weekend to explore how I might implement the requested change 🤷‍♂️ Regardless, I will continue to “care” even if doing so doesn't matter to you.
Now it's my turn to disagree with multiple posts
It was none other than me who suggested the change, and I appreciate the fact that the search box is now accessible, or better to say that the menu is now expanded without having to click the Main Menu button, although it was definitely not the kindest way of responding to just implement the suggested change without posting anything, be it thanking for the suggestion or announcing that the search box would be at my disposal from now on as per my orders without the hefty burden of having to hit the space bar or the Enter key on the Main Menu button. This makes me feel like I am considered this stubborn guy who constantly barks out orders and commands the admins to do everything he desires. It's because this is definitely not the first time I have offered suggestions to improve our experience on applevis.com and received either no response at all or impolite responses from the moderators. I do acknowledge the fact that not all of these responses were necessarily bad-intentioned, and that these changes require a significant amount of time and effort and resources to be made. I thank @David Goodwin for his efforts, but still need to clearly emphasize that I don't mean to underestimate all the hard work and it is actually me who is often disappointed solely because he suggests stuff that he thinks could improve everyone's experience. As for headings, they're not necessary, as I have encountered so many web pages that do have search boxes without any headings. Still, they're as harmless as unnecessary, so there's no need at all to ignore all the time and effort put into the result and describe it as "silly". Go right ahead and express your own view, but not without denying all the hard work and goodwill, which is just what I've been trying so hard to do indeed.
Keep doing what works, David
Though it's a few more steps to post, it can also save me time. I used to have to click main menu, then post navigation, then forum topic. If my brain worked a bit more, I'd realize, after clicking main menu, there's a post button that opens right to the forum topic link. Brad, vision matters no matter if you are influenced by the outcome or not. This is another way I differ from this community. I care about visual aspects of life.
I don't know what i was thinking whenI posted that.
I think the web devs should make applevis look nice but I don't understand why the search button thing is there at the top of the page?
Why not just have it as an edit box that's shown to all who visit instead of some kind of pop out menu?
I've not searched for content on this site but I assumed you'd just press e, space, then type in what you like and press enter, if it's not that way then buy pressing enter on the heading, aren't you just doing the same thing as before with perhaps a press removed?
Once again, to the previous…
Man, It was showing up as an edit box before but I guess it's not doing that now? Hmm.
It is but.
You have to press enter on the heading at the top of the page then it shows up. Is this a design so it works both on mobile and computers?
I've not searched as I said so don't know how it works on the phone.
I've just noticed something quite interesting.
If you tab down through the website it says things like post, creat new content, and apps, brows and search our sub directories, but if you arrow down instead you don't hear this at all.
@Brad
That’s probably because your PC cursor is turned off. I have my PC cursor on, and the arrow keys work in that area.
They work with no issues.
I just found it interesting.
I still don't get the point of this.
I tried to make a post about it but it was removed because it was simlar to this post, which is fine, but I don't get the point of this extra feature.
You now must click on that button, then press e, space, then search for what you want, it just seams clunky.
Why not just have a search box on the applevis page where you can just press e and go from there?
Oh also applevis would rather you contact them about the site than add a catigory to write posts about it,, I'd personally not do it like that because if people can write posts about the site, then people can just write a quick response saying something like, yes i have this issue too, instead of hunting down the email for applevis and going from there.
Re: I still don't get the point of this.
Personally I don't care. Perhaps it's aimed more as a visual aspect and before you tell me that we shouldn't care about this site visually, let me remind you that yes, visual stuff do, indeed matter! I'm a web developer myself so I know what I'm talking about. accessibility play an equal role here and they both go hand in hand when you're designing a site like this. You'd want the importin stuff to show while leaving the cluttered and not needed stuff to not show when you don't need it to if that makes cense. there's already a bunch of stuff on pages Lol. However if this isn't the aim of design for the main layout, then I apologize. Saying goes, don't fix what ain't broken and searching, isn't broken... I just tried this just now and while it's an extra step, I see not a problem here. Takes about a second more to do and it's just... Not as a big of a fuss as you're making it out to be.
I've dabbled in web development myself.
I'm aware visual stuff matters.
I just don't see the point in hiding a search function, a menu I understand but search, it's just odd.
It works fine, it's just not something I'd personally do.
It doesn't matter much.
It's here to stay and that's that.
I'll just get used to it.
Why we should have a dedicated category for AppleVis:
It's because there's currently no such category that not only me but the admins or mods themselves also have to post stuff pertaining primarily to the forum and website itself under the Apple category. The thread where the expansion of the scope is discussed, is a good and recent example. The mods also post announcements where they share podcasts and monthly content, so those may also be posted in that separate category instead, with content related to non-Apple software and hardware under a separate heading.
I agree.
But the mods themselves don't, according to a message i received they won't be adding that catigory any time soon.
It's because they want to phocus on apple which doesn't really make sense to me as they can do that and recognise the place might have bugs and things.
They say that if people want to talk about that they must message them but I disagree with that way of doing things. If I message about a bug or something then you do the same a month later, it might have been forgotten within that month, if they have a section in the forum for it, I can put down a message, you could reply in a day and so on, it wmight be quicker.
