Posted on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 by David Goodwin

Just a quick heads-up to let all our U.S. readers know that AT&T has launched its own "Voice over IP" app.

The AT&T Call International App will let you use your existing wireless service to make cheap international long distance calls with your iPhone. There’s no monthly recurring charge, prepaid balance or commitment term required.

Not being in the U.S. myself, I cannot access the app, so do not know how accessible it is.

Launch Announcement: The AppleVis Campaign Of The Month

Posted on Saturday, November 5, 2011 by David Goodwin

I'm pleased to announce the launch of a new feature on the AppleVis site, our Campaign of the Month.

Each month we will select an app that currently has accessibility issues, and ask you all to contact its developers and encourage them to improve VoiceOver support.

To make this easy, we've created a handy little form that will do most of the work for you. The form even includes a draft message that you can either use as it is, or edit to your own liking.

The app we have…

Watch Out For The Missing Warning About In App Purchases

Posted on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 by David Goodwin

Just a quick note to warn you all that when browsing the App Store on your iDevice, VoiceOver might not be telling you which apps have in-app purchases.

I just went to check out swackett after allseed's recommendation, and noticed that there was an element at the top of the description which VoiceOver was recognizing but not announcing. After checking, it turned out that this was the text that reads "Top…

iOS Accessibility Isn't Just About Apple

Posted on Monday, October 17, 2011 by David Goodwin

Apple has received much praise since accessibility became an integral element of iOS. Much has certainly been said and written on how this has been a life-changer for so many people, and that it has opened up a world of possibilities.

These are sentiments that it's hard to disagree with.

A few short years ago miniaturization was the trend for mobile phones, resulting in handsets so small that you could almost lose them in the fluff that gathers at the bottom of your pockets. At…

Microsoft has just released a OneNote app for the iPhone, and it's free "for a limited time".

As with the Windows Phone 7 app, the iPhone app will let you manage notes and shopping lists (and even add photos taken with the iPhone's camera), and then sync those with Windows Live SkyDrive so you can access them in either the Windows desktop application or its web-based counterpart.

The OneNote app is currently only available to US users. We are still waiting for reports on the app'…
