Basics of using Pages on the Mac

Posted on Thursday, March 10, 2016 by Devin Prater
introduction

Hello everyone. As most Mac users know, Pages is the word processor supplied by Apple. It is powerful, quick, but often mysterious and shrouded in myth and legend. I'm going to try to dispel some of that fear by giving you all tutorials on how to use features of pages, and sometimes comparing them to features of Windows, for those who are just starting out.

note

Please remember that, as I go through these tutorials, that I'll be using the "return" key word…

Playing chess with Facebook Messenger

Posted on Friday, February 5, 2016 by Elena Brescacin

Here is a procedure to play chess using Facebook Messenger application.
Note: this is text-only mode, it's as simple as a chat; for a blind user, it's recommended to have a real chess board in proximity to study the positions and perform moves, but it's also good for people who knows to play chess by heart.
It is simply a server which stays between you and your opponent.
Just select a contact you wish to play with, and then, use this command:
@fbchess…

In this tutorial, I will walk you through getting past Scene 8. For days and even months, I've been struggling to pass by Scene 8 and continue. But the thing I realized, was that you didn't have to keep swiping left multiple times or swiping right multiple times. This would cause me to crash into. obstacles. This guide helps you. "Guide me! Through the trees!" Edward Blake first says. You will get instructions saying to swipe in the direction pointed by…

How to slow down the double tap speed on iOS

Posted on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 by James AVC

I’ve been waiting for the option to slow down the speed of double tapping when using VoiceOver for quite some time and now with iOS 9.1 it is here!

Several of my clients struggle with the speed at which they previously had to single finger double tap the screen to activate buttons, open apps, open links etc, not to mention two finger double tapping to answer or end calls coming in on their iPhones. I’m really pleased that Apple has made this option available as I think it will make…

Double Tap the Status Bar to Scroll to the Top

Posted on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 by Darrell Hilliker

In some iOS apps, with VoiceOver enabled, tapping the top of the screen with four fingers does not move to the top of lists. In these situations, it seems necessary to repeatedly flick to the left until the first item has been reached. Examples of this behavior can be found in Apple's new iOS 9 News app and the Voice Mail section of the built-in Phone app.

VoiceOver tells us the solution may be found in the status bar at the top of the screen. Follow these steps in an app that does…

Posted on Sunday, September 27, 2015 by Scott Davert

What is 3D Touch, Anyway?

3D Touch is arguably one of the biggest features of the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus models. Before we get in to specifics about how it works with VoiceOver, I thought it would be helpful to go directly to Apple's 3D Touch webpage to get an overview of exactly what 3D Touch is:

iPhone 6s introduces an entirely new way to interact with your phone. For the frst time,…

A VoiceOver User's Guide to Xcode

Posted on Sunday, September 20, 2015 by mehgcap

Intro

Xcode is the application development program made by Apple, available free in the App Store. It's used to make apps for iOS, OS X, Apple TV, and Apple Watch, in Swift or Objective-C, and can be used for C and C++ development as well. It is a powerful, intuitive piece of software… if you can see it. Voiceover users have a harder time of things in some ways. That's not to say that Xcode isn't usable--it…

What Is Audio Hijack?

Audio Hijack is an app that lets you capture audio from your Mac. You can apply effects, mix things together, monitor your mix, and record it all to a wide range of different file formats. It's the easiest way to capture audio from a microphone, your whole system, one application, or a combination of any of the above. You can record to files, and you choose how many; if you want one track per sound source, you can do that, or you can have everything go to a…

How to enable Spotify accessibility on Mac

Posted on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 by Kenya

Hello,

It is about Spotify desktop application on Mac and the steps to make it accessible.

My spotify version is 1.0.6.80 but any version later than 0.9.4 (released in September, 2013) would be fine.

There are two steps to make it happen.

Step 1: Open Terminal.app
Step 2: Type the following line and hit enter:
/Applications/Spotify.app/Contents/MacOS/Spotify --force-renderer-accessibility&

That's it. If Spotify doesn't launch,…
