iOS and iPadOS

I just upgraded to a new iPhone XR.

I am confused about how to use the emergency calling feature versus rebooting the phone when using VoiceOver.

Apparently if one holds down the power button while simultaneously holding down one of the volume buttons the phone will either reboot or call emergency services. How do I make sure that I don't accidentally call emergency services when trying to reboot the phone when I'm using VoiceOver?

I'm surprised there would be a single method for doing both very different actions.

I have an iPod Touch 5th Generation. I'm having difficulty using my Braille Sense Plus as a display with it, even though I've done so before. I'd like to reboot my iPod. I've tried holding the home button and power button down at the same time for 30 seconds, but the iPod is not rebooting. I don't want to lose my settings. I've tried holding just the power button down as well, but to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can accomplish this? Thanks!

Good day, I do not get notified on my Iphone 6S when there is a Ios update available? How can I activate this feature? I have tried Google, and, no matter how I phrase the question it gives me about 100 ways to deactivate update notifications but not 1 to activate it!
Would appreciate some info.

I'm considering buying an iPhone with only a data plan. Can I get a phone number at a low cost that people can use so I can still receive calls? I guess I'm thinking I'm wanting something like the Magic Jack for the iPhone.

Once I take the voice over off then a sighted person can save the picctures into the camera roll. How can I save pictures with voice over on when they are send in a text? Any suggestions?

I installed the alex voice, used it for a bit, decided I did not want it and went back to fred. I then deleted the alex voice, but it seems to keep coming back. before i installed alex i had 7.2gb storage used. now that alex was installed and deleted it went up to 8.1gb storage used. how do i get back my 1 or so gigs of storage that alex took up? I thought i deleted alex but when i choose it alex still talks like it was not deleted and comes back on its own. do i have to just reset the ipod touch to permanently get rid of the alex voice?

Hello,

My bank's mobile app has some accessibility issues on iOS. One of them is the fact that the list of transactions is not read correctly by VoiceOver. Instead of reading the displayed data for each entry (e.g. date of the transaction, sum, etc.), VoiceOver reads a consecutive number for each next entry (e.g. 0 for the latest, 1 for the next, 2 for the one after that, etc.).

Each transaction entry is treated by VoiceOver as a separate object.

Hi, All,

I am a heavy VoiceOver user on iPad running iOS 9.

I used to use Adobe Acrobat Reader to read pdf files. It was quite good with VoiceOver. But last week, I was stupid enough to update the app to its latest version. To my dismay, the new Adobe Acrobat Reader is no longer compatible with VO. No mater what gestures I tried, VO just doesn't read the texts any more.

I'm thinking of starting a podcast to aid my business. Can anybody recommend their favourite app for creating and hosting podcasts and uploading them to Spotify? I know plenty about recording them but I need them to be on Spotify so an app which can do that would be amazing.
Thanks all!

Hi all,

I've just added a new feature to the site that enables registered users to indicate the apps that they would recommended to other VoiceOver users.

When viewing an app in the App Directory you will now see how many AppleVis users have recommended that app. Registered users will also see a link they can click to recommend the app.

You will also have the option to recommend an app when submitting it to the App Directory.

Hi.

I am running on a treadmill and need a program on my iPhone which can tell me time while I am running. I previously used the build in program called Running, but after recent updates to this program it is not accessible anymore. The program was useful to me because it announced the time every 5 minuts and it made use of my music library.

Can anyone recommend an Accessible program to use when running?

Best regards

I am testing an iOS app on my iPhone for accessibility. I need to make videos to show VoiceOver users how to use the app. I'm looking for an app which will let me pair my Windows machine to my iPhone so the video will show what is on the phone screen. I know this isn't completely an iOS question, but would appreciate some help.

Which color identifier app have people found to be most helpful and reliable? I would guess the anser depends on the application. I'm thinking of an aid to help select cloting and make sure the pants match the shirt, etc.

- Which app have you found to be most reliable and useable by the blind?
- What distinguishes one app from another?
- Is there any app that has been developed especially for the blind?

Thanks for any recommendations.

Many of the meditation / breathing apps seem to have a strong visual component in addition to audio for meditating or doing controlled breathing.

I was wondering if folks had recommendations for such apps that don't rely on the visuals.

Thanks.

Hi,

Having only recently switched from Android last week, I'm trying to figure out how to listen to audiobooks. The only way I've found is to use iTunes to sync the content to iBooks, which is unacceptable (its iTunes, enough said).

I am writing a AppleVis because I have encountered a problem that I’ve spoken to multiple Apple accessibility advisers on, and they’ve had other one have reported it but I have not seen any discussion about this, my focus with voiceover seems to be broken when I’m using the native message app, and now Facebook.
Messengers started not working about three weeks ago, each time I open the app and I swipe either left or right, it is stuck on the status bar.
