iOS and iPadOS

somebody just sent me a text that included a picture of a poster. My SE 2022 read the whole poster beautifully. Just a few months ago, I wouldn’t have gotten the laugh that this poster created. Thanks, Apple.

A few months ago, someone who had actually downloaded my Gmail reader app ("Reader+ for Gmail") asked if it could use voice commands like Siri to help a blind person (her mother) read email messages. Luckily, iOS 10 which was just released about a month ago added the ability for developers to use Apple's voice recognition technology in their apps.

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me. I searched for and added the “skip back” and “skip forward” commands to my shortcuts. My desire is to map the 4-finger flick left and 4-finger flick right Voiceover commands to “skip back” and “skip forward” respectively. I also desire to activate “skip back” and “skip forward” via Voice Control in iOS 13 and above. Here’s the rub. Though I succeeded in all of these mappings, I am always shown a confirmation prompt. In simple text form, it consists of the 4 following items. Note that for item 3, it also could say “Run Skip forward”.

Hi. Well, last week when I used my hotspot on my iPhone 4s it worked good. Yesterday I went to use it and my iPod 5 and my BrailleNote Apex which both used to be able to connect do not connect anymore. The hotspot still shows up in the network list as Jessica's iPhone, but when trying to connect to it it is stuck on in progress and I have the correct password. It used to work and I have not changed my phone plan or any of my phone's settings. Also, everything else on the phone still works. I can use the phone and texting and all the apps and everything.

I was using 2 apps for reminding me each hour.
Almost time, and hourly chime, these 2 apps are not working after Ios15 update, notifications are on, and for sure am not using the focus mode, so in your opinion, what can cause this?
I need these 2 apps to work with me.
Thanks in advance

I have used the app called Chime for a couple of years. It will not work after I updated to iOS 18. I have tried two other similar apps, neither of which seem to work. Do these apps need to be connected with the Clock? I didn’t think so, but maybe I am missing something.

Hi I'm thinking of possibly switching over to talk talk, but wondered if anyone on apple is had any experience of using it with iOS devices and voiceover. If so, I was wondering how accessible recording functions and navigating the TV guides is with vo? I wold be interested to here about anyone else's experiences with talktalk especially where accessibility is concerned, before deciding to switch over. I look forward to your feedback.

Hi Apple Vis,
My dad is giving me a Master Build smoker, and he did mention that there's a bluetooth function. So I could use the app with it.
I wonder if anyone has used the app before knows if it's any accessible, or just stick with the controls on the smoker?
Thanks in advance.
Chuck

Hi, has anyone tried out the latest Oura app? I have seen some old comments from 2019, but nothing since. I am also interested if others have tried any other ring or wearable and companion app. It feels like it's at the same price point with the apple watch, which I know is accessible and does more, but the ring format has other benefits.

Hi,
One of my friends suggested that I try out tumblr. I downloaded the app, and creating an account seemed to be accessible. Can anyone tell me how well the main enter face works with VoiceOver, or should I just delete the app and try something else?
Thanks For all of your help!

A question for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max owners. What are you using the new action button for? And do you find it useful?
I currently have it set to open the Seeing AI app. I did consider Be My Eyes / Be My AI, but I currently use that app more often for describing pictures already on my phone or in messages using the share sheet than for taking pictures.

Hi, I read some posts here on applevis about how VoiceOver users use their iPads as primary machine for getting things done.

Maybe it's just me, but when I have two apps in split view or or in slide over, VoiceOver focus will randomly disappear which makes hole experience very frustrating.

Is there some settings I need to turn off to make VoiceOver focus more stable?

Hope it's not only me with this experience.

A friend's father underwent surgery a while back that left him blind and with major mobility problems. I believe he only has some, but limited dexterity with his fingers.

I was wondering if it is viable for someone who is blind and also has mobility problems to use an iOS device as his "computer" and interface to the world.
