I've been banging my head against this for months and I can't tell if I'm missing something or if I'm just trying to ask VoiceOver to do something that it can't.
For background, I describe myself as "mostly blind". I use a screen reader full-time on all of my devices, but I still have some remaining vision. At home I've got a big monitor that I can zoom way into if I absolutely need to read something, but on laptops I'm 100% keyboard.
I'm after any experiences of somebody using VoiceOver on a iMac with a Windows large-key accessibility keyboard. Have you just relied on the standard "windows" and "Alt" key mappings, or created a custom keyboard layout using Ukelele?
Recently I purchased the Pioneer WegoDddj 4 controller. When I attempted to use it with my MacBook Pro along with Djay Pro for the Mac, I struck a big barrier with Voice-Over.
With the iPad or iPhone, you can go into Accessibility, then VoiceOver, then navigate to Audio. From there you can restrict VO to headphones-only output while in the Djay app.
I was not successful at repeating this procedure on the Mac. Is there something I’m overlooking? Or is it at all possible?
Hi all,
Before I start heating my brains trying to do this myself, has anyone managed to get Espeak working with VoiceOver on the Mac?
If not, any pointers where to start? I'm currently reading Apple's Speech Synthesiser programming guide, but it's slow work. I was kind of hoping there would be a .plist I could just edit with the arguments to the speak command line executable, but it doesn't look like I'm going to be that lucky.
I trying to figure out how to use WhatsApp desktop on my Mac. Everything in the app is clearly labelled, but finding messages is a bit of a chore. Has anyone else had success with using VoiceOver with WhatsApp desktop?
Hello all,
I am having difficulty using the Dashboard in Mavericks. Whenever I get into it and hit CTRL-Option-f2 twice I get the dashboard menu, and then I can select a widget. After that, VoiceOver keeps saying "Busy," and I can't ghet anywhere with ANY widget at all.
I am using the latest version of Mavericks.
Thanks for any help
Andrea
Apparently something's different now, but I have no idea what. I've noticed that if I go into system settings/Bluetooth, I can check the battery status of Apple accessories, Magic Keyboard and AIrpods at the moment. Somebody suggested using the batteries widget to get to this info quicker.
Hi, Sean here. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there's anyway that I can use my iOS device as an input device for my Mac. I'm wanting to use it as the microphone for my Mac. I'm not sure, but I think you can do this with GarageBand. If that is so, please let me know. Also, please let me know if there are any other ways or apps that I can use my iOS device as a mic for my mac. I know this is quite off topic from the current discussion, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of any audio tutorials or books that can get me started with using GarageBand for the Mac?
On my MacBook while using VoiceOver and running Safari I can navigate through all the elements of the YouTube player. With QuickNav on, I can push the down and right arrow to work with most elements and manipulate them how I want to. But there are 2 slide bars (schuifbalken), no clue what the correct English term is. One for volume and one for determining the position in the video. Sighted people would normally slide them left or right by clicking and dragging their mouse. With VoiceOver, I can't seem to do anything with them. Does anyone know how to manipulate them?
Hi having some trouble using the video feature on zoom on my Mac. Have toggle video to on but doesn’t seem to be working. Seems to be something on there called video rendering? Any help or guidance from anyone would be much appreciated. Thanks
Good day to all. I have a client that has an intel iMac and wants to use ZT Fusion. Has anyone run ZT Fusion in bootcamp and if so does it work any differently? Is it still clear and to all features work as expected? Thanks.
Hello everybody! Is there a way to mute alerts in Zoom with Voiceover on a Mac, short of turning off Voiceover? I know this can easily be done in Windows using JAWS and the Zoom Pro scripts. Can it be done on a Mac?
I vibe-coded a small Swift command-line utility that sets VoiceOver’s Mouse Pointer setting to “Ignores VoiceOver Cursor,” regardless of its current state.
Here's exactly what it does: It uses the private ScreenReaderCore framework and SCRCUserDefaults to set SCRConfigurationCursorTrackingMToVO and SCRConfigurationCursorTrackingVOToM to false, synchronizes the settings, then announces the change in your VoiceOver voice using AV Foundation.
I’m having trouble using the smart reply feature in the Mail app on my Mac with VoiceOver. I have access to Apple Intelligence and have enabled it. Can you please guide me on how to use the smart reply feature with VoiceOver on MacOS Sequoia 15.1?
Good morning to all,
I am trying to install a new virtual machine using UTM. I have the ISO file ready to go and can get UTM to see its location. However I get the error that says please select the hard drive where data will be stored. Has anyone ever encountered this error? I do not see where you can select the hard drive location so assumed it would default to the internal. This is a windows 10 intel VM, if that helps. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks,
simply when I change the output of my MacBook Air m1 to AirPods or any audio device. the speech stops and I have to restart voice over again.
muting and unmuting does not help and this happens even if I connect wired headphones
any help willl be appreciated
I have an Logitech MX3S mouse for MAC. I like to program the buttons to perform keyboard shortcuts. On my old MX, I could program the V.O.+Space command. On the new mouse, although these keystrokes are indicated in the Options software, the command doesn't do anything. I also use Voice Control, and I tried writing a voice command for VO+Space, but again, it didn't do anything. Any help on a different command that will do the same things as Vo+Space, or some other way to accomplish my goal here?
I have recently got a 2TB NAS drive which I'm now using to keep a backup of my Mac with Time Machine. Everything seems to be going fine with it so far, but when I've read up on Time Machine, I discovered there was a "verify backups" option which can be used to check that the backups are definitely working correctly. Sighted people access this option by holding the option key down and clicking into the Time Machine menu. How can this option be accessed with VoiceOver?
I was registering a new Samsung account today and it had to send me a verification email. So I rolled up my sleeves ready to rummage around in the email content trying to find it and copy it out with VoiceOver. But no, the email didn't seem to arrive. Instead, Safari asked me if I wanted to automatically enter the code into the form. I said yes and it asked if I wanted to delete the email, so I said yes again. And that was it, I was in.
hey all,
Since using Mojave, I have noticed a very interesting bug involving dictate and Safari.
If I dictate something into a search field or in any field whatsoever, it will put what I say twice.
For example, if I say this new macbook is great, dictate will do this, this new macbook is greatthis new macbook is great.
I have tried resetting dictate, no result, reformatting the system, no result, i’m now on a new macbook, you guessed it, same thing keeps happening.
