I am looking to computerize parts of my house this summer. I would like to know if anyone has experience with thermostats, front door openers, weather sensors etc.
Smart Home Tech and Gadgets
Where is the best place to obtain up to date and accurate information regarding compatible devices with Apple home kit? I currently have 5 smart plugs which I got through iHome Control They work reasonably well and do show up under the home app on my iPhone 6S running IOS 10.1.1. However, it still appears that to set rules etc I still need to use the iHome Control app. I also have the talking honeywell WI-FI thermostat but apparently that is not compatible with Apple's home kit as I cannot get it to appear in the app.
Hi everyone,
Not sure how many of you use Homebridge, the open-source platform to allow third-party accessories to connect to Apple Home, but I've been working with the developer/maintainer of the Homebridge UI for the last few months, and have made some pretty significant accessibility changes/enhancements to the web UI. Version 5.24 has all of the accessibility changes we've made so far, so if you're a regular user of Homebridge, or just want to check it out, feel free to do so, and let me know if you'd like any changes etc to existing buttons/layouts.
Hi,
I am just getting ready to jump into the smart thermostat market and have been trying to research options. I know the Nest has been around a long time and been the go-to product for awhile, but it appears Honeywell just released a thermostat that is home kit compatible. Since the idea of using Siri to control temperature is appealing, what do you guys think? Sound off in the comments if you have experiences from each company or the current accessibility state of their apps.
Thanks,
Chelsea
Just purchased this thanks to the blind life. Never bought anything from the YouTube channel before based off of the review, but I just had to with this one!
Am I the only one that sees the immense possibilities with something like this?

Hello,
I bought the Instant Pot Smart Wifi:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0777XQ4S8?ref_=pe_2640190_290165290_E_304_dt_1
But I have some questions:
- If you are blind what button do you have to press to activate Wifi pairing on the device?
- What is the best app to use with your instant pot: "Instant pot" or "smart cooker"?
Thanks
Regards
Hello friends. I would like to clear up a doubt with you: I want to buy a smart digital bathroom scale, and I am really considering buying a scale from the Xiaomi company. I donβt have any device to fully evaluate the Mi Fit app, but what Iβve been able to observe navigating between the screens is that the app is quite accessible, but Iβd like to confirm this with someone who has a compatible device and has already connected it and synced.
Does anyone have any experience regarding the accessibility and VoiceOver compatibility of the new iDevices thermostat, especially the iDevices Connected app used to program and control the product?
As a keen indoor cyclist I have only a basic spin bike to use but with the use of wearable sensors for cadence (spin speed rpm( a heart rate monitor (arm band(and use of the www.fitdigits iCardio app I get audio feedback on my workouts.
I am investigating getting a decent smart bike however the accessibility of the screens is always a problem, I have read that Peleton has an accessible screen by the use of talkback and wondering if anyone out there has experience of any other smartbikes that may work well with iPhone or similar.
I am looking for an indoor grill. I would like one that is controlled by an app on my iphone 7+. Any suggestions?
I wont to buy this model because it has vifi, app looks accessible but i don't know how it works.
If someone has that model please tell can blind person use it.
Tnx all
Hi all. I wasn't sure if this should go here, or in the hardware and accossories. I downloaded the remote control but I didn't see anything about how to connect one, or anything like that. Of course I don't have one yet, but if I buy the model, does anyone have any idea what app I need? I want to get all the answers before i buy something. Thanks.
Hi does anybody know have a good app or what would be a good app to install to control an Insta pot with your iPhone and to be able to set the correct settings according to your Insta pot and time and stuff like that
And by God I just mean like accessible or mostly accessible app so that I donβt have too many issues trying to use it any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you
I have a two year old pitbull, and Iβm looking for recommendations for an invisible fence, plus an accessible application to control and configure the fence. For example, say I have a 1000 square-foot yard, and I want to keep her away from things like neighboring fences, flower gardens, etc. According to what I read online there are invisible fences which can be controlled and configured with an iPhone app but I want to make sure Iβm setting both my dog and myself up for success so want to know if anybody has any recommendations.
Hi. I've been searching for an accessible hydrometer for checking relative humidity inside my house, because I just got a swamp cooler. Just found this gadget and app. Has anyone used it? http://www.sensorpush.com/
hi there,
This might be out of the realm of most Apple topics, but Iβm wondering if anyone knows of an accessible teeth whitening kit? Iβve been trying to find one for a long time, but they all have LED lights, and they are not accessible, any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you
Hello everyone
I am considering a smart lock and I am looking for advice on one that is blindness friendly and works on iOS. I am thinking that one with a physical keypad would be best. I went to a local hardware store but could find only one with a keypad that is "integrated," meaning it will fit my current front door. Has anyone had any experience with the Kwikset 99380-001 Halo Wi-Fi Smart Lock I found?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi guys,
I am in the process of renting a house, and I will be installing a smart thermostat. Does anyone have suggestions? I have looked in to nest, but I don't like the fact that it lacks HomeKit support. I am leaning more towards iDevices, but would like to get others input.
Thanks so much!

I am aware that Samsung televisions are completely accessible. In fact, I have one of these. However, my parents are considering purchasing an LG television because of the good price. Could you please let me know what type of accessibility experience I might expect. Thank you so much for any help.
I have six sound files that are my own original content. I imported them from iTunes on the Mac to my phone and they are in my music library. I have my Amazon echoes set up with Apple Music as my default player. my playlists from the content that I stream on Apple Music on my phone sync fine, But my original content will not sync. The playlist with my original content plays fine on my phone, but every time I try to play it on any of my echoes, Alexa acts like she's going to play it, but then she gives me an error message saying sorry, something went wrong.
