Hello :)
I am using VO on my Macbook Air, and I just begun my university studies in Australia, things are going well, but there is one thing that is really annoying, and that is all the citations... In Journal Articles, Books and Assignments there are a lot of in-text citations, since I use VO I have to read through all of them, which interrupts the flow, and is generally irritating. I use Pages when writing and Skim when reading PDFs.
first things first, my intentions of this post is not to start a Mac versus Windows argument. I will not move to Windows because of this.
So I am editing code for my website. I go to Discord, go into the chat and chat with some people. That's fine.
I then go back out and go back into my Terminal. Now to be fair there is a lot of code in this terminal window.
But then VoiceOver decides that it's going to crash. Hard.
Speech? Gone. Sounds? Barely any. Mind you, I completely lack sight, so this is bad. Really, really bad for me.
Has anyone tried Tessa? The free version does OCR okay, but functionality is really handicapped. I wanted to get feedback from others before I upgraded to the paid version. Okay, it's only US$10, maybe I'll try it anyhow.

Hi all. I can't explain it any better then this: I'm in a text field say the forums here. I write thanks, and it might say Thanks for remembering the soda. In other words, it seems to know what i have written before, and puts it in. I delete it and can type what i want. But this is annoying. 1. does anyone know what imean? 2. Please can I stop it? I googled it and can't find anything. Hope this made sense.
I've noticed Text Checker is very unresponsive when opening it and navigating the lists of issues in text fields with a lot of flagged issues. I'm writing an Interactive Fiction game with Inform 7, and it's very useful for detecting words where I hold down the shift key too long and capitalize multiple letters. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I wrote to Apple, and hopefully this can be fixed. I'm using an M4 Mac mini running 15.3, so there should be more than enough processing power.
OK, I'm having a very strange problem with Ventura and the new Text Checker functionality of Voiceover.
I have enabled keyboard commander, and have the commander modifier set to my right option key, as it is by default behavior.
So, I go into Text Edit, we'll just say for example, and I type the following line of text:
Helo my name iz chris and i m forty yearz old.
Obviously, I purposefully mangled that to smithereens as I wanted to see the text checker in action tell me about my issues.
Does anyone know if there is a text comparison app that works with VoiceOver? I used to use Beyond Compare which I loved but it's not at all accessible. I also try PyCharm's built-in comparison but I can't find a way to know what the differences are.
The only thing I've found that works at all is Bitbucket when I'm reviewing a pull request. It's not perfect but at least I can tell what has changed.
I'm encountering a frustrating oddity. If I edit a .txt file in Text Edit, then save it and open it in Windows, it opens up in Notepad or WordPad just fine...however, every line break I created in Text Edit by hitting return simply reads as a "line feed" in Notepad - but the text remains on the same line. This makes trading off documents between my Mac and my Windows work machine something of a frustration, as I then have to go through and re-enter all the line breaks in order to easily navigate the document.
Hello,
I think it's about time we talked about text entry on the Mac with VoiceOver.
My experience is a bit of a disaster. I'd like to share my problems to see if they are unique to me and my VoiceOver setup (or inability to type) or if they or if everyone else just tolerates them quietly.
I primarily use PyCharm where I have noticed all of these issues. But I have seen most of them elsewhere (e.g. in Visual Studio Code or Smultron).
The Magic Sideways Cursor
Normally pressing the up and down cursor keys moves your cursor up and down.
Hello everyone,
Is there an accessible text editor for the Mac that when opened it automatically opens to a new document? I am looking for one similar to how EdSSharp or notepad works on the Windows side. I am really trying to like my mac but it is taking some getting used to. Also a quick question. Is there a email list for programmers on the Mac?
Regards,
Greg Wocher
Hi,
I know TextEdit on the Mac and it works fine, but is there any editor to edit plain text files that won't add formatting codes into the file and turn them into rich text or other formats but will just edit straight, plain boring Unicode text?
All it needs is a word wrap option like windows 7's notepad and it would be perfect. TextEdit is too much like Word and I want something that just opens in a blank document and doesn't prompt me for 50 things before I can edit a document.
Any suggestions?
Sara
Hi
Iβm using Text Edit. Every time if I change text format and line space of my document and if I go back to the document then all changes has gone. What shall I do?
Thank you
Hello everyone.
Iβve got quite an unusual question. Have googled about it, but with no luck.
Itβs about displaying text in Instagram posts in the web version.
Before, more than a year ago, I used to just move through each post, and most of them (except first ten or so) had its text content directly on a web page link object. Hope Iβm explaining it right. Shortly speaking, you didnβt have to interact with a post to read its text. It was read immediately after Vo cursor stepped on it.
