Mac

Hi all,

I have noticed since updating to Ventura that in the German language Umlauts such as ä, ö, ü are not pronounced correctly accept for the elloquence voices.

I was able to recreate this issue in the apple store by opening a PDF-File and downloading any high quality vocalizer or Siri-voice.

It seems like the character encoding in Mac os accept for Mail and Safari is just set wrong. In Mail and Safari everything is read fine. In the Finder and in Preview the umlauts are read as wrong characters.

I've now had time to fully test this and am really really impressed. title reading is easy to set up - for row, column or both. If your familiar with how JAWS works, this works exactly the same. As you move around the table, VoiceOver announces what changes. As you move across from column to column, the column title is announced. As you move up and down from row to row, the row title is announced. I'm very impressed and have put my planned purchase of Office 2013 on hold. JT

Hi, I am trying Nisus Writer Pro. Everything is fantastic. Nothing is easier than getting writing and reading. After trying Pages, Nisus seems radically easy. The thing is that I can't manage to read tables. I manage to create them but I can't read them once created. Does anyone how can I do it? Thank you in advance, Xavi

Hi all,
I have an Index Braille Everest D5 embosser which is capable of printing tactile graphics. I'm looking for a Mac app that can take either SVG files or PNG images and convert them into a tactile format that can be printed? The images are nothing complex, they are mostly outlines of models drawn in OpenSCAD.

I wanted to share a free, open source Mac app I made called Tactile, in case it is useful to people here. I am the developer, so I am posting in the forum rather than the App Directory, in line with the guidelines.

Tactile taps your Force Touch trackpad whenever the pointer is over something clickable, a button, link, menu, or Dock item, in any app, system-wide. It reads the macOS Accessibility tree to know what kind of element you are on, so the idea is that you can feel where the interactive controls are instead of relying on a faint hover color.

Hi all. Does anyone know of a decent mp3 tagging software for mac? I know you can tag in iTunes but it doesn't actually tag the file just moves it in the iTunes database.
I have quite a few untagged files and I don't want to import them in to iTunes and have to mess about editing the information for album, artist etc.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Hi all,

What software do you use to tag your podcast files to be compatable with IAB guidelines? I'm looking for artist/title/show notes/ season, spacificly. It can no longer be done via iTunes since the upgrade to catalina.

Thanks all!

Hi all,

Am noticing odd behaviour on my MacBook Pro running Tahoe 26.4. I keep my screen brightness at 0%, however I am noticing several distinct anomalies:

1. Sometimes when I press FN-F1, Vo reports screen brightness at 6% after the first key-press, then 0% thereafter.
or
2. Screen brightness seems to auto-increase to 35-40%, without any intervention from me.

In other words: it does not remain at the 0% value at which I set it. Anyone else encountered this? Nothing is showing in System Settings which suggests an issue there.

OK I hadn't seen this posted anywhere yet but for anyone on the fence about updating to Tahoe 26.5, I just noticed that it seems to have fixed the order of the conversations list and messages within the conversation such that VoiceOver sees the conversations list first and then sees the messages within that conversation. This is probably a small thing for most people, but having these read out of order has been bothering me for quite a while, so I couldn't be happier that it's finally fixed.

Hello! I’d like to ask about remotely taking control of someone’s MacBook. I once tried the native macOS option with VoiceOver, but it was inaccessible. The screen reader didn’t detect the notification asking for permission to take control. Moreover, even when someone sighted clicked on the notification, VoiceOver didn’t read what I was doing on the controlled Mac. Am I doing something wrong, or is this feature simply inaccessible to screen readers? For example, is an app like TeamViewer accessible with a screen reader on macOS? Can it be used to control another MacBook?

Hi,
I've been looking at taking screen shots with my Mac for my work, however, the only key command I found was the Command Shift 3 which takes the screen shot of the entire screen. What I'm wondering about, is if there's a key command which will take the screen shot of the focused application.
Can you help
Cheers

Does anyone know what the easiest way to take a screenshot of say a website is on a mac?

First, I want to thank the people who replied to my post yesterday about my MacBook air being so slow. However, I think I managed to make it slower. Maybe it's all in my mind. I am just so frustrated with my mac at the moment. Am I the only one who feels this way? I know that it's all new. But I hate it right now. For example, I can't get my arrow keys to work. When I press them, they make that sound, like nothing is there under them even though it says that File Vault has keyboard focus. Plus when I press VO key with space bar to click on stuff, nothing happens.

After I updated to Catalina, the tone that lets me know that Siri is listening is gone. How can I turn it back on?

Hi I’m wondering if anyone has used the software called talktype and how well it would work with voiceover? I would be interested to hear other people’s experience of using this software and how you found it.
Many thanks

Hello,
For my job, I am required to use the teach point software, and it doesn't seem to be accessible. Has anyone had any experience with teachpoint on the mac using voiceover?

Thank you, and have a great day!

I was just wondering if team talk for Mac has improved in accessibility since the last post in 2018? was thinking about installing it on my MacBook but don't want to waste my time if it's not worth it?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello everyone, I am creating a new blogging team called "Blindinsider", are team would like to use TeamTalk as a form of Communication, so, I downloaded the TT5 app for the mac. I was wondering, does anyone know how to create a tt5 or tt4 server on the mac? I have done this on windows, but I would really like it if I didn't have to bootcamp.
