Hi all. So I had the misfortune to purchase the very last intel-based Macbook Air meer months before the announcement of Apple Silicon. I'd like to replace it at some point, but I'm debating between an M4 Macbook Air when they come out or getting one of the new Windows Surface laptops. I'm curious to know, are their any noticable differences in how well VoiceOver works on an Apple Silicon mac, and are there any features for VoiceOver that are available on Apple Silicon but not on Intel?

Hi People's. I'm sorry, I'm kinda new here, but somewhat desperate. I'll try to explain to the best of my abilities. On iOS, I used to have punctuation set to none. As of iOS13, I made a custom group, and disabled underscore, vertical line, etc, etc, etc. Sounds beautiful if I may say so myself. On Windows, I'm even more crazy with it, got everything disabled.
When reading a long email or article that seems to be going on forever, I often want to know how far along I am. Or while I’m working on a document, I often forget where I am and want to know if my cursor position is near the top or bottom of a document I’m editing. (My settings are such that my VO and text cursors are in sync.)
On iOS, this is simple: slide finger to the vertical scroll bar on the right side of the screen, and VO will announce for example, “vertical scroll bar, 42 pages, 38%, adjustable”
HI everyone,
For a few weeks now I've had a password set up on my mac, so whenever I would restart my mac or turn it on after it's been shut down, I'd have to enter my password. Usually I'd hear something like, "enter password, VoiceOver will not read the characters" or something like that.
As of this morning, it doesn't say that and I have to turn VoiceOver on manually. I'm wondering if I somehow turned off a setting by accident. Hopefully someone in here can help.
Hi:
I’m a relative newcomer to the Mac, but I’ve noticed that the VO experience isn’t as smooth as it is on iOS. I’m writing this post on my iPad’s keyboard, that’s how intuitive I find the experience. Now, being a newcomer to Mac, it’s possible that I’m simply not used to VO on the Mac yet. But why does VO on the Mac feel so clunky? Has anyone else had this experience? I’m willing to learn how to make VO on the Mac a smooth experience, and not at all willing to buy and install a VM for Windows on my limited HD space.
hi all, I have an issue from time to time ever sense updating to the latest update of mac os where when I'm doing some task such as reading a webpage or navigating my mac i sometimes have the issue where voiceover stops speaking, and all i get are the movement sounds and no speech, and then it comes back after about a coupel of minutes or so. I don't even have a headset on when this happens, it's happening with my inturnal speakers. does anyone else have this issue?
Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to switch which information vocieOver gives first. Let me explain: When performing a google Search and then open the Rotor with VO+U I get "Heading level x followed by the text of the heading. But in my opinion it would be so much quicker to get teh text of the heading and afterthat its heading level. Is it possible to switch that arround? If so: How?
This tutorial will at some point be updated and posted in the guide section. I am leaving the original here for posterity.
Voiceover optimizations and scripts for macHi everyone, I wanted to take the time to write an article about some voiceover optimizations I've made. These have sped up voiceover tremendously and make my workflow amazingly fast.
Looking for assistance with resolving a few issues I have recently encountered when using Google Docs with VoiceOver on MacOS. I am using MacOS 26.5.2 with the latest version of Chrome as of this post. Yes both Screen Reader and Braille modes are enabled.
Hi all
I’m running the latest copy of Logic Pro on my Mac Mini and have set it up so my midi controller adjusts arameters for my T-Racks 5 plugins. The issue is that I need to remember which switch activates which plug-in. This has got far more than my memory can handle (picture a ZX spectrum and halve it).
Any hoo, I am looking for a way to get voiceover to speak the plug-in nam once a control surface button is pressed before going on to activate the control surface command.
I can't seem to find anything on this anywhere, but I can't believe I'm the only person who's having this problem.
I regularly use voiceover to read PDFs. There have always been some issues, but I recently updated to High Sierra (10.13.2) and now VO-A will only read a paragraph, MAX. I can't seem to get it to read more than a paragraph at a time. This is highly problematic for my reading needs, as locating my position on the page to navigate to the next paragraph is very difficult for me.
She placed the drink where Walt always sat. He sipped it gingerly.
In the above text passage on MacOS, VoiceOver sometimes misreads the word sat as Saturday. It seems to misread it is I use the read all command VO+A or the commands to read by sentence (VO+Command+PageUp and PageDown). It does it with every voice I've tested except Alex. Strangely, it reads the text correctly if I simply arrow into the line with up or down arrows.
My VoiceOver sometimes speaks using Alex Compact, and sometimes non-compact version.
The difference is subtle, but compact is darker and grainier with some artifacts.
I even unchecked Alex compact from the customize voice dialog in VoiceOver utility.
Anyone has this problem?
I'm on Big Sur 11.5.2.
Thanks,
When I am using voiceover on Mac with Xcode it says the colour of the text and the size, how can I disable this?
Hello,
Hey guys. I've been a longtime reader of applevis but only just subscribed so hey :). I've been having a problem for some time with voiceover on my mac. I live in australia and we write our dates day/month/year however voiceover reads it month/day/year. Very confusing lol
