Mac

Hi all I've looked in both VO and mail preferences and can't figure out how to make VO read the state of messages when moving through a mailbox. VO just reads the sender, subject and date. Is there a way for VO to read unread, replied etc before a message similar to how jaws/system access works? I remember VO use to read the message state in snow lepoard.

Hi AppleVis community, I was hoping someone could help me with this one.

Even though I have notification previews set to never, VoiceOver not only reads the person's name, but the entire message when I receive an iMessage while on my Mac. Is there a way to disable this?

Thanks!

Hi community, I'm hoping you can help with this. It's a minor issue but I find it a little bothersome.

When I power up my mac, I notice that it automatically starts reading my most recent message. I don't always want to be informed of messages first thing, so it's annoying that it automatically does this. I even have the "show previews" setting set to never, so I don't know what else to do. I also made it so messages no longer appears in the notification center.
It only does this with messages, to, not emails.

Hi all,

I noticed that in the VoiceOver settings there's an option for VoiceOver Recognition on my Mac, like there is on my iPhone. I've got it enabled for image descriptions, but I am unsure how to access these descriptions and can't find anything on google.

On the iPhone it seems to be done automatically, does anyone know how to get the descriptions on Mac?

Thanks

Have someone else noticed an issue with Voiceover when visiting some pages with Safari and in the middle of a sentence Voiceover saying the word "Space" without any reason? For example I can't visit any page in Wikipedia without hearing the word "Space" several times in a paragraph. I haven't found any reason for this. If I read character by character I get the announcement for every space between words as it is expected, but in a continuous reading of the text, the word pop out without any logical reason.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Hey y'all. I have an M4 Mac mini running Sequoia, and every time I close an app, voiceover says authentication and I have to command tab to get out of it. Any idea why this is happening?

are there any settings to make voiceover act similar to how NVDA does? I've recently had the chance to use NCDA but i do not have a windows machine at the moment and my Mac is one of the ones that can't install bootcamp, and i also like how the mac generally works.
Kind Regards

I have always used F11 to turn the volume of Voice Over down and F12 to the volume up. Recently this has stopped. If I press F12 I hear Widgets Calculator. If I press F12 again it toggles back to where I was. Has the shortcut for volume moved? I run El Capitan on a Macbookpro.

Hi All,

My first time here but can I first off say a big thank you to AppleVis.

I am severely sight impaired and a VoiceOver user, so this is the first time I have EVER signed up to a forum/site and found the registration process so painless! I actually managed the, "are you a human" test on my own without needing my sighted wife to do it for me. Other sites could certainly learn a thing or two from you guys!

Anyway on to the reason I stumbled across your site in the first place...

On my Mac, Voiceover is skipping content in some pages that I visit. If I move with the VO + arrows VoiceOver jumps over the area without acknowledging the existence of the text. I have notice this in several pages, and in some occasions I can find the text in the item rotor, but some times it will not be even appear there.

Is it possible to set a Mac so that Voiceover speech comes through headphones? I've plugged in a USB headset which the Mac recognizes and I can go to system preferences and sound and have alert sounds played through the headphones. However, Voiceover speech still comes through the internal speakers. Can this be changed when the headset is plugged in?

Hello.
After I did some digging, I found where VoiceOver sounds are located.
If you want to find them, go to the path,
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ScreenReader.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Sounds.
If you probably kinda hacked it maybe you could make a VoiceOver sound scheme with sounds of your choosing.
I have not tried it but yeah.
Hope you enjoy the new found possibilities.

Hi, I have noticed that when voiceOver speaks on another user account on the Mac desktop running OSx MountainLion, it speaks very fast when reading a list or dialog for example, yet the rest of the text will be spoken at the rate I have set this at. How do I change this? Thanks.

Hi all, Before upgrading to mac os mojave, the selected voice over voice was scottish fiona. I like to change the voices from time to time. anyway, after upgrading, I now have the scottish voice and australian Karen both saying different things. for example, the scottish voice says: "desktop macintosh HD." but australian voice says "volume" the scottish voice will speak the doc, but as soon as I load an app or the home folder it switches to the australian voice. How do I make one voice speak everything please? Thanks in advance and your help is much appreciated. :)

Hello all-
So I have this new Mac and the problem is old. I just don't remember how to fix it so was hoping somebody here could help me please.
VoiceOver is speaking content in one voice and attributes in another like whether a document is a text document. how do I get it to read everything in one voice?
Thanks-
Mara.

Hello all,

I had thought that this was a setting, but upon absolutely scouring the Voiceover Utility and Mavericks' System Preferences, I'm discovering that this is a very cool, but very annoying bug.

Hello, I don't know if it's a computer issue or a Voiceover one, but I keep losing speech on Voiceover on my Mac, which is up to date. In any given hour of use, it'll die randomly three of four times. sometimes doing command f5 toggle will get it back, sometimes doing that plus closing and opening the lid will, and more rarely I have to restart. Voiceover isn't turning itself off entirely, only the speech. Restarting doesn't seem to help the problem go away. Ideas, please? Do I need a new computer or is there anything I can try? Cheers

Apologies if there has already been a post about this, but I was unable to find it.

I got an iMac from a friend yesterday, to replace my 6 year old MacBook, which after being my daily driver, finally died.

All was working well, but the machine was running Mavericks, so I upgraded to High Sierra.

High Sierra has been fine on my old MacBook and the iMac I currently have at work.
VO spoke during the install process, but once that was completed, VO starts but there is no speech.

I have checked and speech is not muted.
VO sound effects play.
