Hi! Another scanner/ocr software question. I just saw VueScan recommended as a good scanner with use on older flatbed scanners. That's what I am using. I don't have the need to edit pdf's and do a lot of manipulation. I just have some material that I need to scan and save in text or some other readable format. I'm wondering if anybody who has had experience with VueScan can answer questions about this software.

Hey everyone,
For those of you who have been using Vy with VoiceOver, I'm curious to hear about your real-world use cases.
What are some of the most complex or impressive tasks you've successfully accomplished with it?
On the flip side, have you found any significant limitations? Are there certain things you'd hoped it could do but it currently struggles with?
For anyone who wants to give it a try, you can find it on their website:

I gut a new Mac Mini this week, from which I am writing this. I've already learned lots of useful things just by poking around Applevis. Now I'm looking for a good book that explains both how to use OS X and how it works. I've figured out on my own how to do the basics. Now I want something that will really help me get to know the OS. I've been in computers since the days of DOS and used Windows up until now. I'm not content just to use it. I want at least some idea of how it works.

Hello, I wish to repurpose my old 2012 mac book pro as a server, however, not sure what to use for this. I will list my requirements and then optional things that would be nice in lists below. Things I need:
  • the ability to host an ftp server to access files on the mac harddrive
  • ability to interact with the mac via a remote connection, issue commands to voiceover using the keyboard, and hear speach output
  • ability to log in to the mac in some way, e.g.

Greetings one and all!

Summary:

Don't automatically believe what Apple tells you. If you want to set up your brand new Mac Studio with Monterey (or any other Mac M1 computer for all I know), you will need a helpful sighted person with a mouse or a track pad before you can get VoiceOver turned on.

The story:

Beginning of April I called the Apple Store and spoke with a lovely salesperson who confidently assured me I could simply connect my Apple keyboard, power on my brand new Mac Studio, and voila! VoiceOver would begin speaking! Big happy smile.

So when watching a hotspot I set with voiceover on my mac, i've noticed that whenever I do something that causes the hotspot's value to change, there is about a 2 second Delay and then voiceover announces the change in the hotspot value. Is there any way to decrease this delay? This hotspot's value will be changing quite frequently and the 2 second delay is making things go really slowly since I have to wait for the voiceover to announce the new value after 2 or so seconds after the value change. Any way to do this?

Hi,
is there a good user guide available for WavPad for blind users?
And does anyone know if there's a way to preview an action like a cut?
All in all WavPad looks great in terms of accessibility but to be really productive it might take two or three more short cuts like the following:
• cut preview
• listen to playhead without moving it
• listen a second from playhead without moving it

Hello All:
I would like to know how best I can read book from Bookshare on my Mac. I would like to be able to interact with them using Voiceover. On my iPad I listen to them using Voice Dream Reader but that is not sufficient for what I am doing. I am a student of Poetry and I miss out on the visual details of poems some of which I can possibly get by interacting with them at the character level. Besides, I have a hearing issue and do not get much out of listening.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
mani

Hello all. I have a macbook air. I have been doing some reading on ways to keep the macbook from sleeping with the lid closed. From what I see Apple does not allow this and you need to use a 3rd party app. Other then internet sharing which I am not so sure about. I would like to be able to close the lid due to things like having cats who like to dance on the keyboard. Has anyone tried any of the 3rd party apps? If us what worked well? Is there any other way to do this that you know of? Thanks for any help.

I'm building a growing list of ways to kill VoiceOver using Zoom. Here are two that I know of. I'm unsure how to report these issues to Zoom, as I have the free plan. If you know of other ways to break VoiceOver using Zoom, or can help bring these issues to Zoom's attention, I'd appreciate it.

Hi all!

I have an app that used to work called Weather Live. It no longer works anymore. I no longer can get notifications for alerts for severe weather and other things. I know that the app is moved to the IOS and I believe that's free. Is there another app that works well with VoiceOver and is either free or a paid app so that I can get weather alerts and basic information if I'm not near my phone at all?

Thanks
