Mac

Hi,

This is making me crazy. Sometimes after turning down my MacBook screen, or pressing Command plus Option plus eject and waking the device, VoiceOver keeps silent. I have set that after the computer wakes up it prompts for the password. But VO won't read anything. I know it is still active, but turning it off and back on doesn't help. The only thing I found to fix it is restarting.
Does anyone how can I force VoiceOver to reset? Maybe it is a synthesizer issue, I don't know.

Has anyone experienced this?

I have a late 2009 white MacBook.

Hello,

I've been having a recent problem with VO on OS X Yosemite where I will have it turned off for a while, and then it won't turn back on. Command+f5 simply does nothing, even when I am on the Finder window (or otherwise logged in to my Mac).
The only way I can get VO back on is by rebooting the entire machine and then pressing command+F5 once I'm logged back in.
Does anyone know what could be going wrong? This is inconvenient at best, and fairly annoying either way.
Thanks.

Hi all,

Just a quick one. Does anyone with a Macbook Pro with touch bar have it set up with an encrypted disk? If yes, can speech feedback be enabled immediately after the chime, as is the case on older models with function keys?

thanks for any info.

Hello all,
In Ventura, when I use the speech rotor (VO + Cmd + Shift) I get a huge list of voices that I did not even choose to install. How do I restrict the list to the ones I installed in the Voiceover Utility?
Thanks,
mani

Since updating to Mac OS Ventura, I have noticed that many voices have been added to my Mac and show up in the list of voices when I press VO Command Shift to quickly change a voice. When I opened the Voiceover utility to remove most of these voices, there does not seem to be a way of doing this. In previous Mac OS versions, the voices had checkboxes that could be unchecked to remove them.
This is frustrating because I have to go through along list of voices to find the one that I want to use .
Hope this makes sense.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks

Any recommendations on session-initiated protocol (SIP) voice-over-IP (VOIP) software for OS X? Unfortunately, the try-before-you-buy mode of app purchasing hasn't gotten through to the Mac App Store yet, so I don't want to plunk down my money until I know what I'm buying is accessible. Any comments well appreciated.

A MacOS version of the voice assistant app 'Voistant' is now available.

Voistant is an AI voice assistant which should in principle give you complete verbal control over your PC or Mac.

Happy Friday!

I'm excited to announce the release of VOLlama v0.1.1, an open-source, accessible chat client for OLlama. This client leverages open-source large language models to enable local conversations without internet for privacy.

Many user interfaces for open-source large language models are either inaccessible or annoying to use with screen reader, so I decided to create one for myselfs and others. I hope that ML UI libraries like Streamlit and Gradio will become more friendly with screen readers in the future, so making apps like this is not necessary!

Hello!

After updating to MacOS Sierra 10.12.5, the start Sound of my macbook as well as the volume adjust sounds have disapeared.
Today, I updated to MacOS Sierra 10.12.6. The start Sound is here, but the Volume sounds in Windows dont work.
Also another friend reported me, his Screen doesn't become as dark as it was before and is still possible in MacOS.

I would ike to get back the Bootcamp sounds and also if you have similar issues and an idea how to solve, please help.

With best Regards,
Firebird

Can anyone advise an accessible way to adjust the volume of a clip in iMovie? I am able to interact with the audio volume slider and hit Vo Right arrow to increase the volume, but there are two issues. First, I cannot use VO left arrow to reduce the volume, for no discernible reason. Second, adjusting this way adjusts in very large chunks. Is there a way to adjust in more detail, either in small increments or by manually entering the volume value? And is there a way to turn the audio level down with VO? Thanks in advance to all you iMovie pros for your help!

Good Morning,
I hope this post finds you well.
I'm not sure what I've done but I was trying to work out the keyboard command for turning my screen curtain on and off. and I've somehow switched off a setting.
You know how when you press volume up and down it clicks by default, mine only does that when I hold down the shift key now.
I tried shutting my Mac down and restarting again but no, still the same.
Does anyone have any ideas? It's a Macbook Air 2020 running an M1 chip.
If you could let me know, that would be brilliant.

Hi all. I've noticed for some time that VoiceOver misreads the word spelled V-O-L-U-M-E-S. It reads it as "Volume VolYooms". I don't know why VoiceOver does this, nor why it has persisted for several releases. But I finally found a workaround.

I opened the VoiceOver utility with VO+F8, went to Speech, then Pronunciation. I added a new entry. I told it to change the pronunciation of the word V-O-L-U-M-E-S, and instead pronounce it as V-O-L-Y-O-O-M-S. This resolves the issue.

Hi all, leaving thi sin here, because though I mention the Mac I thought this was the best place. i'm considering a second gen stream from humanware. My only problem is, I use Audible.com for audio books. I have access to a windows computer sparingly, but here are my questions. I've subsequently found out i can put in an SD card and all is fine, the Mac recognizes it.

I would really like to hear from people who are using VSCode on MacOS with VoiceOver.

I have used VSCode on Windows daily for years but on the Mac, I find that reading by line is not reliable, intelisense rarely works, sometimes speech stops completely and the normal hints, errors or definition popups are not spoken at all.

But sometimes, I read and the responsiveness is brilliant! So I’m really interested to hear if anyone is actually using VSCode?
