Mac

Hey All,

I don’t know if this question has been asked before. I’ve looked but couldn’t find it on the Applevis website. And, of course, this might be what seems like a stupid question, but here goes.

I just got a Macbook Pro last month. The other day, I finally got my laptop connected to the Internet. Unfortunately, I am having trouble using the Mail app. I can access my mail, but I am having trouble doing anything else.

Hey everyone,

I have a few questions about numbers on the Mac.

1. How do I edit the contents of a cell once I have typed data into it?
2: How do I autosum a number of cells.
3: Let's say I auto summed a number of values. Now I want to take the total, and paste it in another sheet. Basically, I want to make a spreadsheet of my blind work expenses, and will have totals from a number of categories. How would I do this?

Hi all. Does anyone use the main Facebook site with the Mac, and can help me? I would like to really put people where they belong, friends, close friends, family, etc. Also if someone can help me filter posts so if I post about my dad John Q Public doesn't read it, but my family does? Not that I post about him, case in point. Thanks for any help you can provide. Siobhan

Hi folks,
I have been using Bootcamp on a Macbook air for years, now I want to change to a virtual machine.
For those of you using VMware fusion, is it very friendly with voiceover? Is there any advice you can give?
Both win 10 and mac OS are the latest. Hmmm

Hi
I am planning getting VOCR but I have some questions.
Is it meant mostly for reading and describing screens or can I use it for inaccessible websites as well? Can I use it to interact with buttons, check marks, inaccessible dropdown menus which on some websites are not recognized by Voiceover at all, etc?
Are there detailed guides or demos how to use and set it up?
Thanks in advance

Hi there everyone. Hopefully someone will be able to answer my questions. On the Mac when I tried it at the Apple Store I noticed that Voiceover uses several terms that I didn't understand when it detects items on the Mac since they're not used on the Phone like Table. On the phone there are just Buttons that you have to click on, how does this work on the Mac? I mean what are the Icons called on the Mac which Voiceover detects? What types of Icons are there on the screen?

Hello apple Vis,
Does anyone who used Smultron know how accessible it is? If it still is? I read a few posts dated a couple of years ago about how accessible Smultron was.
Is it still accessible? What about the newer versions that are on the app store? Are they accessible?
I've been looking around for a good piece of software for coding. Eclipse is not completely accessible, and TextEdit is not quite thought out for coding.
I've heard people say Xcode supports python, and i have also heard that it does not.

Hello all,
I am going to be going to Best buy later today to get a copy of Windows to put on my Mac with bootcamp. Can I purchase the version of Windows that comes on a flash drive or do I need to get the DVD version and a Super drive so I can install it? Also is there a guide on how to install windows via bootcamp for Voiceover users?

Regards,
Greg Wocher

Hey all! I recently bought a mac book air, i am new to using voice over on mac. The last time i used a computer was before i lost my vision a couple of years ago, so i'm finding it a bit difficult while dealing with voiceover on the mac air. I'm very fimiliar with voiceover functions and gestures on the iPhone and iTouch. If anyone has some tips for me i would really appreciate it, i also got a couple of questions... What do i do to figure out the following... Battery life? The name of the wifi i am connected to? The time? I am also having a hard time typing!

Hi,

i have some questions regarding Ventura, since it seems to be an interesting release:
- I am using Logic, garageband and Mainstage. Has someone experienced bugs with these programms with ventura?
- I am a big fan of the feature to use Iphone and Ipad apps on the mac as well. Are there differences, bugs or improvements or changes in ventura regarding this?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards
Niklas

Dear All the Apple vis members,
I'm Govind From India.
Thank you so much Tyler for recording a very productive and a useful podcast on pages. It's quite helpful when I was struggling to use pages comfortably on my Mac. No I have few more questions regarding the same.
1. How to draw margins and boders on page while printing a document on Mac?

Good evening everyone,

I just learned today of a new hotkey combo in 14.1 Sonoma. This is not a Keyboard Commander, but something hardcoded into macOS.
As we all know by now, pressing VO + 'q' toggles Single-Key Quick Nav. However, did you know that Shift + VO + 'q' toggles Arrow-Key Quick Nav?

So now my question...

Would anyone be interested in a simple script that will essentially make Quick Nav work like it did pre-Sonoma?

I'm back with more questions, yay!

I'm mostly using Firefox, but I'm pretty sure this happens with Safari too. I'm on a site, say this one. I turn on quick nav and hit h to move by headings. I get to a link I want to open, say a forum, and I want to open that link in a new tab. No problem, I hit cmd-enter and I get a new tab.

But there is a problem, and here it is. Firefox doesn't seem to be on that link. What I mean is, if I hit tab, it starts from the top of the site, and I have to tab to the link. Then if I hit cmd-enter, I get a new tab.

Hello awesome AppleVis community:

Apologies if this has been posted before, but I want to confirm a new bug with QuickNav on mac OS Tahoe 26.5.1. I had to update to the latest version for accessibility testing reasons and am regretting it.

Hi,

I use quick nav on a regular basis. However, I am starting to second guess its usefulness. Who uses it and why?

using mac air Mavrks. from safari menu I seem to arrow thru many selections to find my favourites from pc to finally click on a website that I commonly use, like my online bank account. I'm sure there is a shortcut to this online bank account & other frequently viewed websites. Appreciate suggestions & resources for organizing & easily accessing book marks. Also, I do not understand the use of many of the choices on the safari menu, like reading lists. Not sure where to find out relevant info. Thanks,

Hi there. Just wondered if someone more familiar with VO key commands for Mac OS than i am could answer a quick question for me please? What's the key command for "say all" - the equivalent of a two finger swipe down on iOS? I'd like to use such a command in pages for instance, to have voiceover read the entire document to me without me having to hit down arrow at the end of each line. Thanks in advance.

It is just beyond me that Apple can not resolve this issue. My Siri voices on my mac delete themselves. I reported this to Accessibility Team and have received the traditional reply of sending my issue out to the specialized team for further investigation.
Again, I suspect there is an accessibility team, and i do doubt that Apple really cares about accessibility anymore.

Hi All, In Mavericks, Apple have apparently added the ability to quickly reply to iMessages and (I think) emails from within the notification centre without having to open up the Messages or Mail app. Sighted users do this I believe by hovering the mouse over the notification and selecting "Reply", but I can't figure out how to do it with VoiceOver. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Hey all...

Just a quick tip. I've written many times before about the issue with spell checking comments on here when using a Mac, in that you can't. It does turn out you can use the newer proofing feature if you have Apple Intelligence switched on though.

After writing your comment, simply command A to highlight all the text.

Control, Option, Shift M to bring up the context menu (please correct me if that is the wrong name for it)

Type 'p r o' or arrow down to proofread.

Enter.
